A Civil War in the House of Islam?

Considering the latest bombings of Shiite muslims in Iraq and Pakiland, does it occur to anyone else that there may be some measure of a civil war within the Islamic faith?

Can it be that The War Against Terror (TWAT) (tm) is being derailed, intentionally or not, into a muslim sectarian conflict?

The bombings in Iraq an Pakistan are an ongoing part of the internecene strife which goes on the world over. Certainly Shia and Sunni are as theologically opposed as protstant and catholic.

Of course it could just be a tribal thing. This would be like classifying the stuff going on the the Basque region as a "christian sectarian conflict"

Certainly the war against terror (I unilaterally award you the best acronym ever prize) has removed a focus of discontent and absolute rule in the region. Mybe hatred/fear of Saddam Hussein performed the same function as Tito in Yugoslavia

This is nothing new. There have been civil wars within Islam for centuries. As for being derailed, terrorists in Iraq are quite deliberately trying to turn it into a civil war of the Shia vs. the Sunni. That is their stated game plan. But I don't think it's going to work this time.

Here's another irony for you, though: Iran has recently threatened Quadaffi with using Lybian terrorists against him because of his cooperation in exposing the nuclear weapons technology black market.

I suspect that the groups responsible feel that if there is chaos they have a chance of gaining power. If there is not chaos there is no chance. In any event, you can be 100% certain that they are cynically manipulating sucide murderers as their ilk is doing in Isreal.

Hate to point this out to you Tony, but there have been civil wars in Xianity for centuries too. And they don't seem to be ending, with the most recent, IIRC, only a few years ago in Yugoslavia.
