With a bent towards "latin jazz" as it were:
Danilo Perez: Motherland album an all time great; a profound live experience
David Sanchez: His touring band (circa 2 years ago) was so tight that it bordered on demonic
Richard Bona: Bass player/singer extraordinaire. His live band is a unique mix of ultra-sweet and ultra-nasty; one of the most joyful evenings of my life (records don't capture the nasty)
Gonzalo Rubalcaba: He tears up the room, scorched earth. Plus drummer Ignacio Berroa (sp?) is profound.
Hermeto Pascoal: El brujo, Brazilian multi instrumentalist, a once in a generation genius, out of the box = understatement
