What was Bush thinking to plan the Republican convention in NYC in September?
Will the recent flap over the Bush ad with WTC...firefighters...etc. make Republicans think about how inappropriate this idea might be? Probably not, since they seem totally unresponsive to the feelings the relatives and firefighters are expressing against the ad.
My guess is the Reps have planned lots of tributes to remind us of the crisis...reminding us of GWB's leadership. (I guess I'm the only one who remembers him flying around in Air Force One without him or Cheney making any reassuring televised statement to the nation....Karen Hughes eventually reassuring the country that "the President is safe"...and what was it? two days later? he went to Ground Zero.
If it wasn't for Guiliani there would have been -no- public leader to reassure America in a visible, televised presence on that frightening day. I don't know why the press continues to talk about Bush's leadership in a positive way. To me, it was all about Guiliani that day...when it really mattered most.
I think Republicans might be opening a can of worms having this convention in NYC in September. It could, very easily, backfire PR-wise and make Bush seem like he is just selfishly exploiting bereaved people for personal gain...(hmmm...sounds familiar...).....
