Moviegoers at Country Cinemas in Evansville attending a showing of “Passion of the Christ” got more than they bargained for Saturday night.
They were greeted in the lobby of the theater by a man wearing a ‘red devil’ costume. Tyler Wendell, a 19 year old freshman at the University of Southern Indiana, caused quite a ruckus with his get-up. The audience, many who were part of church groups, was visibly upset by the antics of Wendell.
”I always like to push the limits,” Wendell said. Many were upset that Wendell chose to wear a devil costume to a religious movie. Many patrons jeered Wendell as he stood in line for concessions.
Once inside the movie, Christians began pelting Wendell with Gummy Bears, Ju-Ju Bees, and popcorn. Management got involved after a 75-year-old woman, Hazel Meyer, poured a 64-ounce Coca-Cola on Wendell.
Interestingly, they say the man in the satan suit "disrupted" the movie. Seems to me, the Christians could've just ignored him instead of throwing food at him, jeering, etc.
I guess it's a given that "Good Christians" will go postal when given even the slightest provokation.
When geeks dress up as Darth Vader for Star Wars movies, they don't get pelted with candy and drinks poured out on them by elderly women.
I guess it's just the sort of uniquely 'good' behavior Christians want to exemplify. Setting good examples for how to live by the 'golden rule' and all. If the old lady was drinking 'mountain dew', I'm sure we may have a working definition of what the 'golden rule' is. Dump your drink out on people you disagree with. Throw popcorn and other food at them.
It reminds me of a 'Jackass' episode where a guy dressed in a silly halloween devil suit with a sign that says "keep god out of California" walked through a downtown area. Sure enough, some looney eventually ran right up to him, attacked him, and broke his sign.

Why would that surprise anyone?

First, I agree with what the kid did.
Second, he was physically attacked. As soon as he was asked to leave, he should have demanded to see the police so he could file a report for assault and battery. He is, after all, in the right.

This was discussed last week in another thread.
The Hoosier Gazette is a satirical publication and all of the stories are fictional. This incident didn't actually take place.

That is unfortunate.
Gives me an idea, though.

Hmmm, I don't know who you are, but I want to believe this story anyways. I want to find anything in the news that can reinforce my negative opinions. You can say it didn't actually take place, yet it exists in a publication and it shows how stupid Christians are. Who cares what you think anyways. Christians suck!

That's true; Christians do indeed suck.
I think that the reason so many people were duped by the hoosier Gazette article is that a) it's not all that farfetched and 2) it's painfully unfunny, mostly because of a).
Also note, ellot: when we're wrong, we admit it.

I agree 100% - Wendell was exercising his First Amendment rights. The so-called Xtians were wrong, wrong, wrong!

Please. If you can't tell the difference between my personal opinions and what I believe to be objective fact, you have far more problems than merely sucking.

Fact: Since you can't tell the difference between my personal opinions and what I believe to be objective fact, you do indeed have far more problems than the fact that the set "Christians" is within the set "People Who Suck."
Opinion: Christians suck.
I hope that's clear.

Ahh, poo.
At least I get another source to set aside with 'The Onion' and 'Landover Baptist' sites. Fool me once.
And the second part of the post, about the Jackass episode with the satan caricature was on tape, and funny as all hell. That's season 1, episode 4.
Would he have been attacked had he been dressed up in a robe and holding a sign about "Keep satan out of California", instead of "Keep god out of California? I think not.

While I can understand your dismay, I can think of another equally unusual situation.
At an Oakland Raiders football game, there is a crowd which is well-known for it's brazen bad behavior. At this particular Miami vs. Oakland game, one lone Dolphin fan was seated among the rowdy Raider fans. Raider fan responded by knocking the guy down and urinating on him.
So I guess you can say Christians are like Raider fans if you want. Although, I prefer not to think of us that way.
I live in Lincoln, Nebraska, and I guarantee you Nebraska fan would do the same to Miami fan. Although Miami fan would most likely come back with an automatic weapon and kill all of us.
I get sick of going to theatres where "brothers" are the majority. They talk, take cell phone calls, carry on as if they were at home watching the TV. I learned not to go back to that theatre again.
Well anyway, you boys got to make another cameo appearance of the classic "you should behave better and we're superior in all ways."

You're either a racist or a troll.
So choose.

what is so bad about being a troll anyway? i mean, don't you have to go trolling to catch something?

Trolling is only one technique. There is spear fishing, using a net, chucking in an explosive, etc.
If you really want fun, try wading out into the creek and catching them with your bare hands.

There's a really funny disclaimer at the top of the article now:
We at The Hoosier Gazette would like to formally apologize to Kerasotes and Tim Tolbert for any problems this article may have caused. Their names have been removed from the article and replaced with fictional names.
They do seem to be stretching the rules of satire a little bit. But, let's hear about the problems!
