You are the one who denies that those ancient craftsmen and masters could be the ancestors of those who are now on earth. It's you, after all, who claim that they packed up their science-fictional technology and flew away with it. It's you who are claiming that they were more evolved than our actual ancient ancestors.

Here's another possibility: They had a strong oral tradition.
This is something Alex Haley discovered when he was researching Roots. Some African tribes kept meticulous geneological records without writing anything down. The records were verbally passed down, verbatim, from one generation to the next. Haley theorized that our natural ability to memorize verbal data has become atrophied by our dependence on written language.
If I remember correctly. Which I may not because of my dependence on written language.

One of my favorite stories is that of Easter Island, where western visitors puzzled over the giant statues found there. There were many competing theories about how they were crafted, from fairly reasonable explanations to the intervention of aliens or supernatural beings.
Then some clever soul got the bright idea to actually ASK THE PEOPLE THAT LIVED THERE how the statues were built...and they, of course, knew exactly how it was done.
It looks like this is exactly what I said it was...a story. My dad told me this years ago, but I can't find any information that indicates that modern Easter Islanders knew how the statues were built and transported.
But, it probably has something to do with all the trees that disappeared around the time they stopped making the statues.

I have emailed a couple of archeologists that dug the site. Will post results. In the meantime, from the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians:
Inca construction techniques have long been the subject of wild speculation. Investigations of ancient quarry sites and of numerous cut-stone walls reveal that the amazing Inca constructions were built with very simple means. Stones were selected out of rock falls or just broken out of a rock face with pry-bars. If the blocks needed to be parted, big hammerstones were used to split them. To dress the stones smaller hammerstones were used to pound them until they had the desired shape. The fitting of one stone to another was done by cutting the already laid stones to receive the next ones in a trial-and-error fashion. Experiments show that with this process stones can be mined, cut, dressed, and fit with little effort and in a short time.
ETA - King of the Americas, can you please confirm the following? I just want to make sure I have your argument straight.
you are incredulous about the Egyptian pyramids because of the logistics of moving so many heavy stones (every 9 seconds...)
you are incredulous about Puma Punku because of the carving technique used on the green andecite stone monoliths
do you still maintain that there is something other-worldly (lost advanced technology, whatever) about the sandstone, or have you dropped that?

It is much more likely that the population being ravaged by Westerners landing and raiding on the island had the most influence on the collapse of their culture and certainly more impact on their environment. There is more evidence that their forests were deliberately devastated by Western slavers etc to demoralise the population than the oft alluded legend that the islanders destroyed their trees/environment because of Moai building.

*There are LOTS of really interesting stone work on the GP. The cap stone(s) above the queens chamber for example, they were slid down a shaft into place from above. The stones would crush anyone under it, as it was too big for men alone to put in place, and there was no room around the outside for ropes. Weird. The work itself is literally a marvel, containing no markings, but a single inscription 'painted' in an upper anti-chamber. The problem is that its true contents and purpose is lost. Yet mysteries remain, as several shafts remain blocked and unexplored. The last numbers I looked at said the structure was built in 20, suggesting that they placed an average of 2 tons worth of stone every 9 seconds. If THAT is true, then an 'advanced technology' was employed. Men, ropes, and sand ramps with rollers, did NOT alone do that...
*It is the AMOUNT of mastery level carving there that is simply unbelievable. You simply can't do that without advanced tools and a written language, period. Puma Punku required something now lost.
*There are LOTS of stonework, all around the world. Not all of it is from the same age, and not all of it was done with the same tools. Some of it, is out of place, timeline wise. Meaning that some works are much more advanced, yet lay in the ancient past, before known advanced technology.

Much of our knowledge of ancient cultures comes, not from what they kept but from what they threw away. Perhaps we now find copper tools because they were the ones nobody carried off or stole when the civilization collapsed and all the people left.

And that's it? The GotGoneGods applied their amazing advanced technology to cutting and piling up rocks? Nothing more? And they meticulously collected every scrap and crumb of their advanced rock cutting and piling technology and took it with them when they left? The left behind not so much a Twinkie wrapper or a Tupperware lid? All that remains is a few ambiguous, debatable signs of their handiwork, yet not a single nut, bolt or broken unobtanium cutting blade?
Why? Why were the GotGoneGods so meticulously fastidious about tidying up after themselves? Were they setting up some sort of 'test-of-faith' scenario to mess with our modern day heads? Like... we have to accept that they existed based upon the scantest of evidence in order to prove ourselves faithful and worthy? Is this just more silly, ass backwards, attention whoring antics?

Your name has been indicated to me by a third party, member of a secret organization of initiates, as being a reliable and trustworthy person in conditions to carry on the mission of safely guarding this object and showing it to the world in the 2012 Olympiads opening cerimony, as part of the events which will pave the way for the much awaited return and unveiling of the long-gone golden people of Atlantis.
Please note that our situation is desperate and the object can not be dispatched through regular channels. We are then forced to ask for further help, by depositing U$50,000.00 at the following bank account:
Account 16180339887, Bank of Nigeria
The money will be used to cover expenses with charter flights between Africa and the USA, the inevitable bribes at customs and other organizations, to keep secrecy and also to help funding the required hardware at your house to store it safely, as well as your trip to London in 2012 (safety measures and VIP accommodations included). Once the deposit is confirmed, an agent of ours will leave Abuja with the object and deliver it, with the proper storing hardware and instructions, to you at your house. A few months prior to the Olympiads, new instructions will be given to you.

King, in case Psiload's comments also flew over your head, let me ask it this way:
Nothing you've cited so far suggests that the ancient lost technology involved anything but stonecutting. They left behind a lot of rocks, but not one advanced tool, wire, or machine. You point out how hard it is to convey technological wisdom without a written language. So where is their writing? They worked in stone, but inscribed nothing? How did they develop their technology without writing? Did they fly away on stoneware saucers? Sail off like Saint Mael in stone tubs? Should we be listening to Stone Temple Pilots records for clues to the ancient mysteries?
e.t.a. PS, St. Mael is fictitious. Please do not get involved or invested in the mystery of stone tub navigation, or in the question of whether penguins are accountable for their sins.

Those are no match for forged steel, which I have employed, and know that it is no match for granite.
Sorry bronze alloys are no match for andesite.
I guarantee you that if you placed an experienced mason into Peru and asked him/her to duplicate the Incas' stonework using only native materials, he/she would be able to figure out how to do it, given enough time.
It wouldn't necessarilly be the way most people would expect.
People are very, very clever. People thousands of years ago had the same brain that modern humans have. There's nothing magical about it.
ETA: I base this in part on a documentary I saw a while back where a celebrated archeologist came up with a theory of how the pyramids were built, and asked a mason to assist him in proving it. The mason quickly figured out that the archeologist's method wouldn't work, and just as quickly came up with a method that WOULD work...very likely the very method used by the Egyptians.

Indeed. Having some experience in manipulating stone, metal, glass, ceramics, and wood, and having very much experience in being clever, I would suggest you could put an experienced woodworker in that situation and he/she could come up with do-able methods for duplicating the Incas' stonework using only native materials. This whole argument about advanced technology backed with nothing but ignorance and incredulity is just about the silliest attempt to bolster one's faith that I've seen outside a religious discussion.

Okay... it's coming back to me now. Back when I first became aware of "the King", he was planning something called The World Peace Initiative. Which was to be a free concert held in the desert on the evening the New Year's Eve back in 2000.
I remember him outlining plans to have everyone gaze skyward at the stroke of midnight and welcome the alien space visitors. Yep... I specifically remember the whathaveyous came from outer space back then.

2 and a half years, a car, and thousands of dollars later, NOTHING happened, but a dozen stoners gathered around a campfire. NO live broadcast, no fan fair, and ZERO results.
The concert began and ended with Howard Stern's remark, "lu-lu-nu-nu-cukoo?"
I must have made that jag-off 2 dozen copies of my essays. Stutter Jon told me that the whole on-air staff had read them, and that Howard would be calling me at 7:45. At the end of his show, he gives me a ring around 10, and tells me he didn't read anything.

Must have made it hard to work stone.
They're better now, my right operates at 70%, and my left is a good 85%. Either can hold a chisel and swing a 3 lb hammer. And depending on the angle of attack, I use both well.
I've only worked stone at two points in my life, in high school I used a forged steel chisel to split several hundred concrete patio stones. They split easy with a simple score line. It took like a dozen hits to make a good split, give or take. And in the past year or so, I've been lettering a piece of granite with a carbide tipped chisel and diamond tipped drumel tools.
I'd say the first work I did was rough, hapless, and mistakes were invisible. The work I do now, is fine lettering on some of the hardest stone you can find, and mistakes have to be polished out, least it look like garbage, and be more prone to weathering.
Oh, and I've carved several figures out of white marble with a drumel tool.

How many years since the UFO phenomena started? 1947 would be a good starting point? Wanna go back in time? Foo fighters (no, not the band), rocket and airship scares? Doesn't matter, the result is always the same, no reliable evidence.

There are many things that people do TODAY, right in front of our eyes, that the average person can't figure out how it was done. Why is it so hard for some people to believe that ancient engineers (who have the same brains that today's engineers have) found solutions that aren't obvious to the average person today?
Engineers are wicked clever. If you've ever looked at software code written by a mechanical or structural engineer...wow. Highly impractical, but ingenious as all get-out.

And if they do return, what will they have to offer? Is the mere novelty of the confirmation of their existence going to improve the human condition somehow?
It seems that all they've had to offer in the past is mad rock scratching and stacking skillz... that, and an amazing ability to tidy up after themselves.
What else? Stomping flat our crops, probing our butts, killing our cattle, zippy lights in the sky shows... sorry, but none of this seems particularly useful or constructive. Truth be told... 'they' seem pretty much useless.
Is there anything, beyond the entertainment value of the spectacle of their return, that we should be looking forward to when 'they' return?

All right, let me see if I get KoA's line of reasoning straight:
1. There are things in this world that we don't understand. Or, more accurately, that KoA doesn't understand.
2. In ancient times, people dealt with things they didn't understand by attributing them to gods.
Conclusion: Things we don't understand are attributable to heavenly beings that we could call 'gods'.
We don't know what they are, what they look like, what they want, what they do, why they do it, and we have absolutely no evidence that they exist. But they do.

All of these things can and will be resolved without the Laws of Physics being repealed. I get your point. Unknown tribe needs to figure out how to signal Brazilian gov't that they want contact. I understand.

King, I think before you stretch your analogy too far, you should look a little further into what is meant by an "uncontacted" tribe. I believe you vastly understimate their reticence, and vastly overestimate their naiveté.
This one sentence from the Huffington article should ring a bell:
"Illegal loggers have entered the Peru side, forcing the Indians into Brazil"
THEY KNOW THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE! If they didn't, they would not have felt the need to move!
Now, if your internet connection is working better than mine tonight (mine stalled and I couldn't get the whole video to play) take a good look at the very first shot in the picture. Do you notice anything about the implements they're using?
THAT'S RIGHT, ONE OF THEM IS HOLDING A MACHETE! Gee, I wonder if they know what steel is?
If these folks were, indeed, the analogue of your gods from space, then they would provide you with an ample answer to your project. They are uncontacted by choice. If they were not, there would be no debate now on the subject. They shun us and flee us.

The U.S., Russia, China, and a few other nations, but none of these efforts represent in any way Mankind, the Global community, or even most people.
In fact, it could be argued that NASA represents only NASA, and NOT the wishes, desires, or need for people to make contact with 'them'.

I believe what is meant by "uncontacted" here is that the tribe as a whole shuns contact and that there has been no effort by outside governments, etc. to contact them either. It does not mean they're undiscovered, and I don't think it means that some individuals have not interacted with persons outside the tribe, perhaps with other indigenous peoples, at some point. Of course it does remain possible that these items were found, but even so, they know what they are, and must be aware that other people exist, so my point still stands, that their isolation is voluntary.
Of course one reason they remain uncontacted is that it appears the Peruvian government finds it easier to deny their existence. If they don't officially exist, then they and their lands need not be protected. For a long time, this probably worked to their advantage, as long as there was enough land for them to disappear into. It only becomes critical as resources dwindle and living space diminishes.

Of course we don't know what they think the planes are, or what they are doing, or whether individual adventurers have gone out and returned with more detailed knowledge. But the pictures show a fair number of people looking at the plane, so we can surmise that they won't have too much trouble convincing others. Remember too that airplanes are very audible. It's pretty certain that everyone there has heard them before, and that everyone in the neighborhood when those pictures were taken heard the plane, and saw it if they cared to. Obviously from the pictures they were not afraid to look.
I suppose that if they wanted contact specifically with the pilots flying overhead, they might wave, bow, smile, make other welcoming gestures, perhaps hold up bowls of food. It's a mildly interesting question, but not a real stumper of a problem. Most people can figure out how to make a gesture that means, if not "welcome," at least "let's interact."
If they wanted contact in general, with outsiders not specifically those they see flying over, they could probably just walk out until they find someone, or, if accounts are accurate, simply not flee deeper into the woods when they see or hear the loggers coming.

If you are implying that these tribespeople thought this was a sighting of gods - it's obvious that they are wrong. It was merely a plane.
Your conclusion that your UFO sighting is evidence of gods above us is equally erroneous.
In my faux tribal conversation, I never had them mention "gods", on purpose. What the tribesmen called it was an advanced technology, and an advanced race.
What we are seeing in our heavens isn't "God" either, just a more advanced race with better technology.

KotA's analogy with that tribe is deeply flawed when it comes down to his beliefs...
The airplane represents a culture, a civilization which has brought very few good things for the natives. Our needs, our greed and our germs caused and are still causing havoc on the indigenous civilizations from the Americas. Take that tribe, for example. It quite likely they had to move due to logging (I would also add illegal mining as another possible distress source) and the odds are that several diseases have been and will be transmitted to them by contact with those "skygods".
Still want the skydemons to descend, KotA?

Lets assume these folks are around since the dawn of history.
Heck, enough time to understand us, right?
So, "they" should be aware of our space exploration programs and the desire many humans have to meet our neighbours, other sentient species.
Thus, why the f-word they need a bunch of people staring upwards to descend? Not to mention that who can be sure they will be looking towards the right place? Who can be sure "they" will notice these folks looking upwards. Who can be sure "they" would care?

First of all, its nothing but a belief of yours. Myths saying a certain wisdom was given from the gods are not reliable evidence this wisdom was actually not the product of human activity. Actually we can even question the utility of many pieces of wisdom allegedly given or inspired by the gods. They resulted in wars, prejudice, oppression, etc.
Note that farmers drive machines with bright lights (some of which can fly) and give their cattle guidance, food, healt and other cool stuff. Cattle might be gratefull to their farmers, see them as gods and think nothing bad can be expected from them, right?
Heck, sometimes cattle even flock curiously around the farmers, eager to get some salt and lick their vehicles...

First, I don't know how many tribesmen there are there, nor do we know what they 'know' about the log eat monsters or the loud bird that flys over.
Then again, maybe they know exactly what and who we are, after talking to other tribes who have made contact. Maybe they are trying to hold on to what and who they are now and don't want to make contact.
My point is that there is a parallel to these tribesmen and their heavenly onlooker and us and ours.
There is one very big difference, which you seem to be unable to grasp. The people who fly over and the people who cut down trees are real. I think your idea that these people are so primitive that they think everything not them is magic is condescending. We don't know exactly what they think, but but they know enough to stay clear of encroachment, and to do it together.
Of course, you are also ignoring the one part of your analogy that could be true: The people from the sky and the people with the chain saws represent the tribe's almost certain destruction, as a culture and quite possibly as individuals. Whether they act from superstitious fear or historical experience, avoiding contact is their wisest choice. Perhaps that's the lesson you should see here.

And you should get off your condescending, ethnocentric high horse for a moment, and remind yourself that whatever you think about tribalism and cultural progress, or the potential benefit of unleashing an imagined genius weighed against the nearly certain destruction of a culture and decimation of a population by disease, it does not even remotely resemble "evolutionary development." You are completely illogical. This part of the conversation started with a demand that we join you in a rather silly online petition to the organizing committee for the London Olympics, asking everybody to stop during the opening ceremony to stare skyward. The TV cameras won't point up unless the whoevers descend - they'll be busy interviewing Paris Hilton or Britanni Spears or the current tart of the month to get their opinions on the whole endeavor - so however many people are watching at home won't be out in their front yards gaping at the sky, so your initial message will be lost.

First, the corn gods have to be hiding undetected in the solar system, which is silly enough all by itself.
Then they would have to have their super advanced telescopes trained on the appropriate spot (do you realize how large the Earth is at this level of resolution?)

Is it stupid to throw your body on a grenade to save the rest of your unit? To some, maybe, to others it is the highest form of bravery. Now if the guy in charge says we need a human sacrifice to appease the gods, and he starts eyeing one of your kids, I don't think it is beyond reason to think that a parent would volunteer in place of their child.
You are looking at death, in a manner different than the Maya. You wouldn't get me into a cockpit into a WWII Japanese plane to fly into a U.S. destroyer, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen hundreds of times.
Given I never attended a Mayan ball game, I don't know who got the honor of being a gift to the gods, but I am certainly not arrogant enough to say that everyone in the history of time feels the same way about death and sacrifice as modern man or society does now.
