Six months after promising to create an office to help the nation's struggling manufacturers, President Bush settled on someone to head it, but the nomination was being reconsidered last night after Democrats revealed that his candidate had opened a factory in China.

It sure can be argued that he knows about building factories, but it seems a poor political move.

The Bush administration has delayed announcing the appointment of Behlen Mfg. Co. CEO Tony Raimondo to the post of assistant commerce secretary for manufacturing and services.
Commerce Secretary Don Evans was supposed to make the announcement this morning in Washington, but a Commerce Department news release said the announcement was scrubbed because of a scheduling conflict.

Yes, a meeting came up with the bonehead who suggested his nomination.

Uh, Sub, why are you surprised? Washington has become a boobaucracy. We have ceased to be a government by, of, and for the people. We're being led by a bunch of halfwits.

I sure hope you can get it fixed and soon. It takes YEARS to fix up stuff after boobaucracy runs for even a short while. The longer it's there, the longer it takes to fix. Some sort of proportional square thing...

I think this covers it...

Not an example of political flip-flopping by the administration:
Bush pick bows out after Dem criticism
Proposed industry `czar' had China ties
Cox News Service
WASHINGTON -- A Nebraska businessman withdrew from consideration to be the White House's manufacturing "czar" Thursday after withering attacks by Democrats about his ties to China.
Anthony Raimondo, chairman and chief executive officer of Behlen Manufacturing Co., based in Columbus, Neb., had been expected to be nominated to the new position of assistant secretary for manufacturing.
The Commerce Department postponed a Thursday ceremony, citing scheduling conflicts. As the day wore on, it became apparent the delay was linked to the barrage of criticism about Behlen's opening of a factory in China.

Score -1 for the Bush administration bowing to bigotry and xenophobia from the union democrats.

Knew you'd blame it on the Dems, although I know you'll deny that's your intent.
If it was a good choice why not stand up for your principles?
Those mean old dems made me do it.
The blame is in the bowing.
If they were xenophobic and bigoted then stand by your man and make their bigotry an issue.
So every time the other side says boo you're gonna flip? He was a good man, a good choice, right? Then fight.
If they bowed because they'd lose votes, then it was a bad choice politically.

Hey corp, let me take it down a notch and presume better intent on your part, OK? Forgive the harsh tone, please.
The worse you characterize who they bowed in to the worse the bowing becomes. Say if the Nazi party criticized them and they caved the worse it would be. Hope that point is more clearly made.
At least the nominee did the right thing and withdrew the nomination saving some face.
Does not bode well for the advisor that put forth his name however.

You got me, I did it to annoy you personally since it seems your only purpose in posting on this forum is for hashing out the latest possible Bush scandals.
Personally, I think Clinton and Bush have a bad record of standing by people.
Remember Clinton offing his nominees at the slightest whiff of a scandal? How does it make you feel to get an attorney general that was the fifth pick.
Remember Bush dumping Linda Chavez? Remember the Bush admin dumping Paul O'Neill and Lindsey for no other reason than to look like they were doing something about the economy (as if they could harness a horse that size and guide it, the gall).
Your problem is that you are a mark for anything anti-bush, if you were an equal opportunity destroyer your threads would be much more fun.

Please remember Clinton is in the past, we are dealing with the present. We can do nothing about the past but learn from it, to not repeat it. Bad is bad no matter who does it. I think we are in agreement on that.

Carpet Exec Tapped as Manufacturing Czar
CRAWFORD, Texas (Reuters) - Under fire for heavy manufacturing job losses, President Bush on Thursday picked a carpet manufacturing executive, Albert Frink, to head up efforts to reverse that trend, months after the administration announced the initiative.
The Bush administration's first pick for the new post of assistant secretary of commerce for manufacturing and services, Tony Raimondo, withdrew from consideration after Democrats accused him of outsourcing U.S. jobs to China.

Well it appears to me that the appointment of this carpet manufacturing exec is just a blatant attempt by Bush to sweep the problem under the rug.

You get the prize for recognizing it was a joke. I was fully expecting a counter attack.
As with all puns I enjoyed it more than the audience.

It would be interesting to see how these guys are tied into the Bush social and business circles. Skull and Bones guys? Oilfield buddies? I will try a little googling and post any interesting findings.

There could be a big cover up with this carpet guy. That would just floor me.
