Does anyone have any experience with assigning oral history, interview-based projects in high school history classrooms?

What is the best approach for contacting or finding veterans or speakers relevant to a specific time period (in this case, world war 2)?

If it helps narrow the field, I am attempting this in an NJ classroom.

Call the events coordinator at any (and I mean ANY) assisted living facility. Don't call nursing homes, because those people are likely too sick.

Might also try a VFW post or an American Legion Hall.

Good luck. Sad to say, the WW2 generation is almost gone, and the few survivors are probably not in the best of help.

Try approaching Regimental Associations (like 101st Airborne Association).

Or try contacting http://www.state.nj.us/military/veterans/index.html and see if they can help.
