Dr. Robert Mark Caulkins allegedly arrived drunk at the hospital for surgery, according to the Associated Press.

Last night, hospital officials would not confirm the allegations, saying they would not discuss personnel issues in public. But they released a statement noting Caulkins ‘‘does not have medical staff privileges at this time.’’

The male patient was not at risk, because surgery had not begun, the AP reported.

Caulkins could not be reached last night.

I'm sick of the media picking on doctors. You got one side of the story here, and the hospital won't even talk about what the side is. But the Boston Globe didn't care, so they went and printed the story anyway, UNfair and UNbalanced.

I'm wanna start a defense fund for this poor guy. Anyone wants to donate- you know where to reach me.

Yeah, at any of several bars.

So where are they picking on him?

Oh, just reporting something that might be the truth.

I prefer my surgeons to be high on cocaine.

I know it looks bad showing up drunk for work. Heck, I bet the Globe reporters always drink on the job! You see them in Boston's North End alot, where there's all these fancy restaurants and cocktail bars.

I once knew someone who was late for work because he partied a lot, and one morning he was still drunk from the night before... but he did his job OK and never got fired or nothing.

Then there was this kid who rarely drank at all. Well he got a little buzzed off half a beer right before shift, and he was giving a customer change (like $15 somthing for a $20). He thought it was a big joke, and he kept giggling and dropping coins all over. Let me tell you- the customer didn't think it was funny. He looked PISSED, in fact, but he didn't complain or anything. He could have, but he didn't.

Same thing should apply here. You don't put the Boston Globe on someone for being slightly intoxicated right before surgery. Un-fair.

As for reporters being drunk or sober, I would never be able to spot the difference ......

American, you're truly a candle in the window for all doctors who are now or have been picked on by the media.

It's "candle in the wind", not "candle in the window"
