In some other thead there was talk about a bias press lableing ETA as "militants" instead "terrorsists". Well what about Mushattaf. Everywhere I look hes called "President". The guys a dictator. He may be a usefull dictator, but a dictator none the less.


I guess there are no bad dictatorships, just bad dictators.

Nah, Tmy,there are good dictatorships (because they leave Western businessmen alone and are anti-Communist) and bad dictatorships (they don't see things in the world like we do). If you're a dictator and survive long enough, you may be both before you're done (evidence is Saddam, and if Libya disarms and behaves responsibly in the next 5 years, any bets on Khadaffi paying a State visit to the White House?) :eek:

Seriously, AQ probably would like to see Musharraf dead, there is a major fundamentalist Islamic movement there and that could really upset the balance because that would truly put nuclear weapons in the reach of AQ--and invading a nuclear-armed country of 150M+ people may be a bit of a reach even for the US Military.

So yeah, even if he overthrew a democratic government, it is probably in the US interests to support Mussaharaf, given the probable alternative. Ain't the world of realpolitic fun?

Hey Im glad hes there. Just like Im ok with red china. How else you gonna control all those people. Democracy has problems when you have to big a population.

India is a functioning democracy, elections are violent (about 300-400 dead each cycle) and confusing, but there are multiple parties and plenty of mud-slinging and lying on your opponent, so I guess it's as democratic as it comes! :cool:
