View Full Version : Christ or Joss Whedon to blame?

The "Blame Game" will start over this one. (http://www.local6.com/news/2921701/detail.html)
Police in Jacksonville, Fla., arrested a man who believed he was a 'vampire slayer' after he allegedly shot his Domino's Pizza co-worker twice in the face because he thought he was a vampire, according to Local 6 News.
Timothy White, 35, who was described by friends as a born-again Christian with an unusual preoccupation with zombies and vampires, was arrested outside of a church after Friday's shooting.
So, the real reasoning behind this is simply that the guy's a nutter. How fast do you think the religious right will start blaming the media? And how fast before the media starts blaming the religious right?

If Joss Whedon were to blame the nutcase in question would have used a wooden stake against the Pizza Delivering Vampire and not a gun.
The guy is so off he can't even get his vampire lore right.

Actually, I think that may play a part in his defense. "But Your Honor, my client clearly didn't mean to kill him. Everybody knows only stakes kill vampires and that a shot in the head does F*** all."

I hadn't even contemplated that as a defense. I imagine, though, that he'll just plead insanity.

I imagine, in his twisted little mind, he confused vampires (ala Buffy) with zombies (ala Night of the Living Dead.)

In some of the more "exotic" websites you can find around the internet, you'll notice on every vampire's site reads "belief that you are a Vampire Slayer is very bad, VERY BAD, we are normal people with an out-of-the-normal lifestyle, 'staking' people is a capital offense, Vampire Slayers are the work of fiction".
I dont think a person's religious beliefs (regardless of how completely nutters) is enough to warrant a plea of insanity.

I guess then it would depend on if vampires were part of his religion, or just part of a psychological delusion.
If he's really nuts, then he's nuts, regardless of religious beliefs.

Didn't you know? The only way to kill a vampire is to shoot him in the face! Now if I shot you in the face you'd still be alive. Look, I'll prove it to you...

If he's really nuts, then he's nuts, regardless of religious beliefs. Quite the opposite, in fact. By the consensus definition, a person cannot be considered mentally ill for espousing a culturally- or religiously-accepted belief. If his religion is considered valid by whichever psychiatrist examines him, that alone would be insufficient for a diagnosis of mental illness.

I can't help him with vampires, but he could have protected himself against zombies with ZOMBIE ALERT!!! (http://loris.net/zombie/index.html)

Here is an old argument: What tv shows did Hitler watch? How about Atilla? The media and it's influences is just a trigger-excuse for someone who is unstable already.

Well, I know if I were an undead, immortal lord of the night Domino's Pizza is where I would work.

As a White Wolf aficionado, I've seen enough borderline cases of these kicked out of the Camarilla Club to last a lifetime. The insanity is pre-set, they only need something to latch onto. If not an RPG, then a TV show. If not a TV show, then a book, a famous figure, parents, lovers, anything you could possibly obsess over.

In Dusk Before Dawn they blessed the bullets and scored crosses on the tips with a knife blade.
Course, in RIFTS you can kill a vampire with a dollar store squirt gun and normal tap water!

Well of course they'd say that.

I've enjoyed reading some vampire message boards.
Many of them think that they are a different breed of human. Most of them will drink human blood if they can because they get "pranic" energy from it. If not, they will buy blood from the butchers shop. They feel that they are ultrasensitive to light. They also feel that they are physically stronger than most other humans and that they have heightened senses of vision and hearing. Of course, none of them would want to be tested to find out if this is true.
Many talk of an "awakening" when they are teenagers, and often there are newbies on the board asking if they are going through an awakening. It's bizarre enough that teenagers are claiming to be vampires, but there's a handful of older people too.
And then there's the "psychic" vampire phenomenon as well. I've also seen a couple of werewolfs post.

Oh really? (Actually, there is this "vampire" board that I'll take a look at every so often... the folks seem nice enough, I just gave it a read and the "Vampire Slaying" topic came up, it basically advised all vampires to be less overt about it to the "normals").

I don't get it, if it's a vampire board for vampires, then why does it discuss people who are vampire slayers...wouldn't that be kind of counter productive to the vampire way of life?? And isn't a vampire slayer a "normal" who slays vampires?

Actually, vampire message boards don't seem too strange after you've been to a zombie message board.
It's just page after page of the same nonsense...
