At 99p a litre is Tesco, Perrier water is still cheaper than petrol (£1.30 per litre) but when the bottled water companies also start going out of business because people cotton on to the fact that it's a scam too then I'll happy twice over.

How is it a scam? You get exactly what is advertised, a plastic bottle filled with water. If you don't have a free source of water handy, it's as good a way to get hydrated as any other

I don't want to derail the main topic of this thread, so we could resurrect the above thread if people would like. Otherwise, in short, I get what you're saying safe-keeper, and admit that bottled water is not a scam in the same sense as homeopathy. After all, it does exactly what it says on the bottle! :D

What I find perverse is that people buy so much bottled water in my country (England) when we are fortunate enough to have an excellent system of water companies who keep the tap water safe to drink. And we pay enough for it too, so why pay again? :confused:

But then, people spend their money on all kinds of things that I wouldn't choose to buy.

Depends on what is said on the bottle, both what's implied by the name and what it really says in the fine print. The brand name may imply pure, natural spring water, but the ingredients usually show something more along the lines of, city water supply water from wherever the bottling plant is, filtered, with a few preservatives added.

Also, the word 'natural' on any food or drink label is completely meaningless.

Yeah, our tapwater is pretty safe according to any reports we get. The problem is its chlorinated, which is REALLY unpleasant at 125 degrees. Usually we fill the big jugs at the 25cent per gallon machine, which is the same machine we use for the water part of our radiator mix. We usually fill up our canteens and water bottles at friends' houses with well water. I guess the point is, I wouldnt call it a scam. Its water, in a nice safe bottle. As a bonus its usually unchlorinated too.

I think the scam they're talking about here is the claim that commercial bottled water is somehow purer, but the bottles are an issue, too. I take bottles of tap water to work but I reuse them. The longest I've gone is about six months before losing or breaking one. And thankfully I don't have to worry about 125 degree heat.:eek: That's like walking on the sun to me.
