View Full Version : [Ed] TAM London 2011 Cancelled?

I can only assume that TAM London 2011 will not be taking place as no dates have been announced.

I hope I'm wrong but peeps have travel plans to make etc and it's nearly March!

Last year it was 16, 17 October. So how much notice do you need? The tickets in 2009 were sold in May.

And the same for 2010.

Why do people leap to the conclusion that because they've not heard yet, that something has been cancelled? We had the same thing for TAM9. What are the rumours that people are hearing?

What are the rumours that people are hearing?I read (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?postid=6919416#post6919416) that TAM London 2011 will not be taking place as no dates have been announced.

Well, I guess that's it then.

So they canceled something that hadn't even been announced yet? I guess that somehow makes sense?

With almost twice the audience last year surely there's little reason to pull the plug.

My understanding is that they've retroactively canceled TAM London 2010.

I heard that London itself is no longer there.

I understood that London actually was killing time in Las Vegas waiting for TAM in July.

What's TAM, and why has it been canceled?

When TIM comes to visit, it's a tasty Austailian cookie.

Still no announcement regarding TAM London. I have written to the JREF, but has not got any reply.

I have been asked to plan for my vacation for the rest of the year so it is critical for me to know the dates of a possible TAM London.

Are there anybody reading this with inside information? For instance from the TAM London team?

According the the thread title, it's been cancelled.

In the past two years, the dates have been announced in late May. So you may have to wait another month.

You could try contacting Tracy King (@tkingdoll on Twitter; she's a member here too, but rarely posts); she organised the last two, so would probably have an idea.

Of course! I wonder why I did not contact her before! Thanks.

I contacted Tracy about TAM London a couple of months back and got the following replies:

Hm, that does not sound very encouraging! Tkingdoll has not been active here for a year, and she has not replied to my PM. After this post, I think there is noreason to write to her in Twitter.

The JREF has still not replied to my email. All in all bad news!

Yes, it is a bit discouraging, as my understanding is that she was the driving force behind TAM London, but it's still a bit early to conclude that it won't be happening this year. It would be nice to have confirmation that some planning is going on, though.

In the past there was talk of doing a TAM in Zurich, or elsewhere in Europe. Perhaps they are working on something like that and it won't always be TAM London, but TAM Europe? I'm sure an announcement of some sort will come in May as in past years.

Carole and I were talking about it yesterday - we went to an evening at the local Arts Centre with Robin Ince; This was it seems the final show of a countrywide tour.

We wore our TAM London tee shirts, but he couldn't see them because of the lighting!!

We're hoping that TAM London is taking place this year, as we missed last year. That was because I'd arranged my trip to Australia 11 months earlier and had chosen end (16-30 Oct) as that would be after TM and Carole had a commitment that weekend too.

I'll keep an eye on this thread.

If it turns out there is no TAM London this year, I may have to add this one to my calender. Never been to Switzerland.

I tried to email february marketing (Tracy's company) too, but never got a reply.

I hope hope hope hope there will be another TAM London, it helps for the visibility and community of the European skeptics.

I've been to the previous two, and I remember both being announced fairly late. I also spoke to some american JREF people in March, and I seem to remember they still thought it would happen.

I think the past 2 were announced around May/June.

Well, September, November, and December all have the letter "M" in them. If it takes place in any of those months, it must count as a hit!!

(If it is being pushed to March 2012, I'd say you have some inside information.)

Tracy/Teek has said several times she's in no way involved with JREF this year

I understand that Tam9 is really big and all- and maybe there's thought by the org not to hold Tam London this year, but please, just tell us.

Would be fine if the official response is- 'we're still working on logistics, planning, etc.'

But now that May has come and gone with not only no tickets going on sale, there's been no communication about the possible event at all.

Not whining here, just trying to plan a trip to London and I want to be sure it encompasses TAM

It has nine letters. Add three and you have 12. So yes, there is a 12 in September.

No September 12th? Is that a weird British thing? How come your calendar isn't horribly out of synch with the rest of the world?

I am sad, that there will be no TAM London this year, but there is Zürich in September, and we are organizing a large, international skeptical conference for May 17th til May 20th in Berlin, Germany.

This version of the German CFI's yearly conference is also the the 25 year anniversary celebration of said German Skeptics Society and for that reason we will be hosting an international conference in our beautiful city.

The main conference language will be English and we are trying to get some great speakers. And the Berlin SiTP group will organize some events on the fringe, as well.

At this point in time, we can only give out the general details, but more will follow as soon as they are available.
