Just have a look at some of the leaflets our military is dropping on Iraq if you want to see their mental powers at work:

Apparently, fiber optic cable is now considered a weapon of mass destruction.

Also apparently, they think it's a big no-no to shoot at military planes flying over one's airspace. But what would they do if Iraqi planes flew over our airspace?

http://www.centcom.mil/galleries/leaflets/images/izd-038.jpg

And they can see nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons from a satellite. Gee, then I wonder why the inspectors are having such a hard time finding them?

Anyway, I smell upcoming parodies...

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode, where the FBI asks Homer to find a Trillion dollar bill that Burns stole.

"We've tried using satellites, but so far all we've determined is that the bill is not on the roof."

Wow...you're right!!!

Maybe we should get a Professor of Philosophy to explain the metaphysics of the reality of warfare to them instead?

Yeah...cartoons are stupid Shanek...we get it....those Iraqis targeted by the psyops campaign aren't exactly geniuses either.

The British have a saying for guys like you Shane..."You're too bloody clever by half!"

Believe it or not it worked pretty well the first time. Most of those that surrendered in the first gulf war had the leaflets on them and in their raised hands when they gave up. I have a few of them from the first one but no scanner as of yet.

shanek, I assume you made this comment based on the leaflet which tells Iraqis their lives are in danger if they try to repair damaged fiberoptic cables during any future war action for which these leaflets are designed. Please tell me you are not that stupid.

Up to now, I have disagreed with you on many things, but I have always felt you were smarter than me. Seriously.

Yes, there will be parodies. But they will come from ignorance.

Read the leaflet in question again, shanek.

The Coalition has superior satellite technology which allows Coalition forces to see the preparation and transportation of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons.

Bold text is my emphasis.

yeah, ignorance. It doesn't matter if it's fiber optic, basic landline or sattelite communications. We target it and if you fix or are in the process of fixing it we will continue to target any and all means of communication, all militaies try to take out communications. It was stupid to specify fiber optic.

The purpose of leaflets:

Make your opponent look sub-human so your own troops will have no problem killing them.

Uh, yeah. Not. The purpose is to try to convice the poulace of the futility so as to limit the number that will resist. People sometimes buy into propoganda. Just look around the board here, specifically at AUP and UCE's posts.

sorry but I even stated that many that surrendered, aka not killed, had the leaflets in hand to help avoid the communication gap in the language barrier. Contrary to unsubstaniated reports, we didn't just kill them as we saw them.

Did they really use all of these? Some of them seem to be very crudely drawn, while others (like the ones saying "We're bombing here soon" seem to be strange from a tactical point of view (i.e. why tell the enemy when you're attacking?)

Still, if they did use them, it shows how much the U.S. wanted to avoid Iraqi casulties.
