View Full Version : Not Organizing This Year
Hutch

Folks, I'm tired.
Not of TAM and certainly not of the people there, but I'm 58, looking at 30 years on the job come August and I'm dealing with the biggest, most complex and most difficult program I have had in my career...and at the same time getting the feeling that bosses don't trust me with it. I don't see me taking time off this year until TAM and 50 hour work-weeks just don't leave me much energy to do more than referee youth soccer on the weekend
So I am sorry, no Secret Cabal, no Bowling, No Guns-and-Nukes like I've done before. I just can't manage it this year.
Now that doesn't mean I plan to be a completely miserable sod; I'm helping several folks to go to TAM and will shortly be making a nice contribution to the Scholarship program; I hope (for the first time in several years) to try my luck at the poker tables; and my minivan rental will be at your service as required. Plus, my post-TAM vacation (see my other thread) is still open if anyone wants to come along.
But I'm tired. Perhaps next year will be settled enough that I can do more.
If anyone wants to organize any of the above, please let me know by PM and I'll provide you the information and experiences I have gleaned.
See all y'all soon.

Hutch, I'm pretty sure what you've done in the past qualifies you for a lifetime good-guy achievement award. Thank you for all you've done!

Wow, just one more year and you would have earned that huge bonus.

You deserve a break, Sir Hutch. The remaining members of the Secret Cabal can carry on with your serving only as an emeritus member. See you at TAM, man!

Hutch you are going to TAM and going to have fun? Just have fun?
Really, play some poker, if you need "arm candy" just let any of your many admirers know! Kick butt on your current work project, things are little crazy just now huh? (Kitty checks the news, things seem pretty calm to me)
Looking forward to seeing you at TAM !!

No worries, Hutch - just knowing you will be there so I can say hello is more than enough!

Hey, someone else could pick up the torch and do stuff if they wished.

The bowling alley is right there... it's not like a lot needs to be arranged.
Sitting in the Del Mar Lounge at 2 in the afternoon on Wednesday, stand up, and say loudly "I want to go bowling. Who's with me?"
Done.

It's scary how easy it is.

Well, Hutch actually organized a tournament with teams and such, but yeah if you just want to go bowling, announcing it in the bar is enough.
We should have a forum table set up at TAM as usual and if you want to organize stuff, tournaments, dinners out, trips to museums you can leave that information and sign up sheets with us at the forum table. This is for anyone in the forum who cares to organize stuff so go for it.

Dang, I put the smiley face up and everything and you still thought I was seriously complaining?
I need to work on my joke-face.

I know you are joking, just using this as an opportunity to let people know they are welcome to organize stuff if they want to, we have been spoiled because Hutch just did it and we could all be lazy and enjoy the work he did for us. There is no protocol to follow here, if you want to organize something you feel would be fun or take up the stuff that Hutch organized, just start a thread letting people know you want to do it and see who jumps in.
It is really a lot of fun when people from the forum organize stuff for our evening entertainment because while it is a lot of fun just hanging out at the Del Mar chatting, it is nice to do other things too.

Hutch, you are awesome for all you have done, and you are entitled to a break. Your status as a TAM hero will remain intact if you never lift another organizing finger ever.
Thanks for your work; with any luck you will have inspired someone else with similar skills to take on such organizing in the future.
My hat is doffed to you, sir!

How would that work, Eos? Obviously cheers like "bluff that hand" or "bet that straight" wouldn't be good. :D

Oh, other way around then... Hug him when he wins, and "better luck next time" when the hand is lost...

Since it was brought up, who wants to bowl on Wednesday night?
I have taken up the sport in the past year, maybe I'll bring my big ball (and shoes).
