Sorry, stupid question-
How does one go about applying to make a presentation at TAM?

I am going to guess "by invitation"...

By contacting JREF with a demo video. Just like you would send a demo video to the Idols contest. If they are impressed, then they are impressed.

Thanks all-
Straw Poll- Who would be interested in a presentation by the team that built the Blackbird craft and achieved the Direct Down Wind Record- POSSIBLY including a debate with some of those who claim what they did is impossible?

Given the attention this issue has attracted on the forum, a wonderful idea.

If it's a short talk, you could submit a request to present a paper. http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/jref-news/1242-tam-2011-call-for-papers.html For a presentation, I think you'd have to write the JREF and ask.

Maybe. What is a Blackbird craft?

Maybe. What is a Blackbird craft?
A SR 71 with wheels, propeller and a sail.;)

I would also suspect that if you're thinking of a full presentation, you'd be looking at TAM 2012 at the earliest. Something tells me that the schedule for 2011 is already cast in rapidly setting concrete.

If this Blackbird craft achieved the Direct Down Wind Record (whatever that is), what's the point of debating those who claim it's impossible?
Either it did it or it didn't.

you could do a paper. Applications being taken now. I'd say if you did really well with that... you'd be on your way.

In case anyone is still wondering what this is all about, there was an article about it in Wired last month: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/02/ff_fasterthanwind/

Thanks. I had heard a little bit about this but hadn't seen that article. It's informative.
So did it happen or not? :D (Yes, I know it's been discussed elsewhere...)
I'd like to see a paper presented on this at TAM, though that probably would be only enough to barely scratch the surface...

Adman,
Yes it happened, and as such is an interesting sciency topic.
What is even MORE interesting, from a Skeptical viewpoint, is that, in spite of these guys actually building, testing and setting a world record with it, there are still a fervent few who refuse to believe it, and go to Herculean mental gymnastics to explain why it isn't true.
As an insight into the inner workings of cognitive dissocience, delusion and Dunning Kruger syndrome, it could be a Psychology PhD thesis!!!
