California AG wastes $2m to punish a citizen for the state's mistake (http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/03/27/freed.prisoner/)
Ms. Martinez has been out of prison on her own recognizance while her case was on appeal for approximately two-and-a-half years," the governor said in his letter. "During this time it appears she has led a law-abiding life, been gainfully employed and received a great deal of community support and encouragement.
Yay for Big Government inefficiency and ineptitude!
Luckily, Ahnold, for all his other problems, is actually intervening on this woman's behalf. I bet that just drives law-and-order conservatives crazy! This case shows that the state isn't really concerned about rehabilitation of convicts, but rather warehousing someone for as long as they possibly can. The prison-industrial complex has to survive, you know.
