I am considering it. I would like to be able to post my digital pictures to the net throughout the trip. The only thing is, I'm worried about theft. Last time I travelled with my laptop, I kept it with me the whole time, because I didn't want to leave it in my hotel room. I don't really want to lug it around everywhere I go. Any suggestions for keeping it safe?

handcuff it to your wrist. People will think you must be important.

I checked out the website for the hotel, including video tour.
It mentioned having data ports in the rooms and safes for laptops, complete with rechargers inside. Why don't you check out the video. Renaissance Fort Lauderdale (http://www.marriott.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=FLLBR)

Cool. I probably will bring my laptop, then. "Data port" may mean a phone jack on the side of the phone for hooking up a modem. That's pretty standard. I didn't hear words such as "high speed" or "ethernet".

I'll have mine, but it's been flaky recently, and sometimes beeps arrogantly at me instead of turning on.
Anyway, you never said why you were asking, Girl6!

I hope there will be some way for me to burn my digital pics onto a cd. I'm wanting to take lots of pictures. We're headed out for a two week vacation immediately after the Meeting, so I'll want my camera cleared for that.
Help!

If I bring my laptop, I'll be happy to burn a CD for you. Hopefully, getting the pictures from your camera to my computer will not be a problem.

Hehe. With the amount of digital cameras that will be around, you could start your own little sideline business customizing cds.:D

http://www.marriott.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=FLLRP Anyone knows if there's internet access for guests, as a hotel service?. I was checking the hotel services and facilities a while ago, but didn't see any mention to it.
E-mail access would save me a lot of money in phone calls from the US to Chile

I'll bring my voice recorder (if I can find the bleedin' software!) - could be cool to have The Skeptical Dirty Dozen's lectures for later enjoyment, eh? :)
Only thing is, it can only store 5 hours worth of sound, so I need to dump it somewhere on a laptop, once or twice a day, for later upload. Is that possible with anybody? I need a CD-drive (for installation) and a USB-port.
I would definitely also appreciate net access about twice a day. Might be worth a few drinks and honorable mention on SkepticReport... ;)

No laptop, no digital camera, no video camera, no recorder, no note-taking.
While y'all're distracted by all that stuff, I'll be paying attention.

I'll have my laptop with CD burner and might be able to help you if the software can be used on a Mac running OS X.
G6, you too.

I live with my laptop, it follows me everywhere.
I think it is haunted.
I think I am haunted by my laptop.
My laptop is my life.
My laptop records my life.
My laptop lives my life for me.
Hell no, I am leaving the bloody thing at home this time, I hope.
Oh crap, it heard me, now I'm in big trouble. :D

What is the camera? I have the HP software. However, if it is not a HP, and provided you bring the software with you so I can install it, I will download your pics and burn them on a CD for ya'.
How's that?

You are obviously a believer in the wrong religion.

Only the top two or three floors of the hotel have high speed internet access, although every room has a separate data port. Only about 40 of the 250 rooms in the hotel have two beds...the rest just have a king size bed, so if you're doubling up, you might want to call the hotel to be sure you've got two beds. I was out there this morning to check on the setup and it was the first time I'd been at the hotel since it actually opened. It is beautiful and I think you'll all be very pleased with the accommodations. The sleeping rooms are not very big, but they seem extremely comfortable.
For the reception Friday night, instead of just hor d'ourves, we're having an Italian buffet, so don't worry about dinner. It includes fettucine alfredo, penne marinara, fried ravioli, sesame chicken tenders, vegetable crudites, a cheese board, rolls, and coffee or iced tea. There will also still be a cash bar.
It's chilly today...high is only going to be 59, and it's breezy, but it's a beautiful clear, sunny day. It should start warming up Monday and hopefully the following weekend should be nice.

I'm gonna eat breakfast Thursday before I catch my flight, but once my plane has taken off, i'm not gonna eat til Friday evening to make enough room for all that good food. :D :D :D

Highs in the upper 50's? Like I said, don't be too surprised to see me walking around in shorts.

Actually, no. I've been watching the development of computers (not just pc's, mac's, whatever) for a long time now, and I can say that I'd rather live in an open society than a prison. :)
How would you like it if your car could only go to a certain gas station, or a certain auto mechanic? Isn't it nice to be able to have so much to choose from?
Back to the subject: Still haven't found that CD...will look for it.

Girl6, if you're uncomfortable sharing a bed with Luciana, you can always sleep with me and Jami. ;)
And I am totally offended by your economicist/technocist question. Some of us cannot afford or justify the purchase of a laptop. Please take a sensativity class so you'll be better able to understand those who are not like you.

Hang in there Lisa, some live on these boards, and some of us rent space; some just drop by, and a few camp out on the weekends. Ten or twelve, a hundred or a thousand, they all make this site what it is and are individually valuable, except for Franko's. :D
