View Full Version : Bush Afraid of 82 Year Old Woman

THE WASHINGTON TIMES
A long-running Washington tradition apparently ended last night when, for the first time in memory, the doyenne of the White House press corps was not called on in a presidential press conference.
Syndicated columnist Helen Thomas, who has covered every president since John F. Kennedy, was relegated to the third row in last night's East Room event and — if the memory of press corps veterans is accurate — received her first presidential snub.

Well she is known for "asking the tough" questions.

Anyone who can't handle a question has no business being president or presidential press secretary.
But then Bush stated during the campaign that Gore had an advantage in debates because he could walk and talk at the same time. True.

Your missing the point, she was intentionally snubbed for being a tiresome old windbag.

Right.
You sir, are a tiresome young windbag;)
who knows nothing of tradition, and jounalism, and freedom of the press, and don't remember the days (how could you) when a president had a brain (cue the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz), and a press secretary and president could handle and relish a tiresome old windbag with a witty retort.
Youth is wasted on the young, but you have a nice Glock :), so I'm glad you don't have my home address.:p

Actually, with Helen's articles of late I am surprised they let her in the room. :)

You speak of tradition? Like that of women not being in combat? Like women not attending the Citadel? Like the hazing that goes on in the military? That sort of tradition? That very sort of tradition that gets slammed every chance a liberal whiner can find? I agree with ya. Liberals just cocking up all the damned traditions

http://www.washtimes.com/national/20030307-85033093.htm I have a good deal of respect for Helen but I can understand why she was snubed. All of the years have really given her an exagerated sence of importance. Her questions of late have demonstrated that she is more interested in her own agenda than gathering information. When she is not begging the question she is delivering a speech in the form of a question. Maybe she would be better on Jepordy.

It is customary in washinton to ignore reporters that are openly hostile. Clinton, Bush Sr., Regan, Ford, etc., they all did it. Helen certainly is hostile of late. I'm glad she was snubed. If she decides not to go back into retirement I hope she will ask tough questions but leave out the inflated ego.

Who was the lady who said President Bush was the worst president in history--was it that lady?

If it was, no wonder she was sent to the third row. People should have respect for the president no matter who he is, and Bush is doing a great job and will probably wind up being one of the greatest presidents this country and the world has ever seen in the history of the United States before this is all over.

oh feck Tony, LOVE the sig line

"Texas can make it without the United States, but the United States cannot make it without Texas."
--Sam Houston

If the lady in question did say that about the current pres she is trying to ask questions of (or his press sec), I think that wasn't too smart of a move on her part. Dont insult someone that hard core while you still need to talk or ask them questions. Insult em just before that point :). Then you can really give it to them after they are out (though maybe she is feeling her age?).

She never insulted him or anyone to their faces. Everyone has the right to their opinion. They disrespected her. She always respected the office of the president and everyone. You don't know what you're talking about.
Can't take a little hard questioning from a little old lady?
She gave it to everyone regardless of party.
Jeez, she's an 82 year old woman, I see no respect from y'all. All afraid of matriarchal totalitarians I guess.
How manly is that?
Bunch of sissies. Can't handle an 82 year old woman. Boo hoo frigging hoo.
You all should be ashamed of yourselves, big men, hah.
Feel real masculine?
82 years old. You'll be lucky to have a prostate, or sit up and take nourishment. She's tougher than all y'all will ever be.
Women are life itself.
Go f*ck yourselves, that's what you want. Bunch of jerk offs.
You owe your mothers an apology.

Freedom of the press is not the privelege of a front row seat. This was of course a staged press conference where the order of question askers was predetermined.

As for tough questions, there were great questions about world dissent and such. No, I don't think we missed much by having Helen be quiet.

"Mr. Bush, you weren't even elected. How do you have the authority to go to war? If Saddam is so bad, why not go after those murderous jews."

The only thing Bush dodged was letting the washington press corp look like idiots by having Helen ask one of her patented loaded questions that no answer works right for.

abuse? This gentle old sweet lady gave a massive insult to the prez that she would like to question (insults vary, saying that Bush (even if true) is the worst President ever in our history I'd put on the hard core end of the insult meter). For that they didnt give her a first row seat and didnt give her the traditional first question. It is politics.

If its true (it is) or if its an honest, reasoned opinion born from years of first hand experience, its not an insult.
If she called him a lousy ex-crackhead alcoholic moronic corrupt drunk driving cheating son and grandson of Nazi financiers, Gramps bank was shut down under the Trading with the enemy Act in WWII: you remember that, right?, (which may be arguably untrue), she's still an 82 year old woman.
So friggin what, can't they or you take it?

No big suprise there. They are a longtime defense contractor. What would have surprised me is if McDonald's had agreed to put out oil well fires.

What's next? "Shocking Revelations" that Lockheed Martin will build military rockets?

Gee, is this the same GW Bush caught calling a reporter a "major league *ssh*le"?
Golly! How could ANYONE insult HIM?

Helen Thomas no longer does daily reporting anyway. She does opinion pieces. President Bush has no reason to call on her, nor any columnist. It's like not calling on George Will. The real question is the one about the snub of the Washington Post reporter. He actually is a reporter. It is the president's prerogitive to call on whoever he wants, however, so that's also a non-issue.

This raises a question, is it an insult to make fun of Chelsea if it is an honest, reasoned opinion?

Sorry sub but the inconsistency meter is going right of the scale on this one.

I'm guessing that you have some justification why Helen is not "hateful" but Rush is. "Don't bother. We agree that we disagree."
