A group of far-left kooks (http://october2011.org/welcome) is planning "a prolonged occupation of Washington DC" starting October 6, 2001 to protest against the war in Afghanistan and pending federal budget cuts. The group includes the usual suspects: Bill Moyer, Bob Fitrakis, Chris Hedges, Cynthia McKinney, David Lindorff, Howie Hawkins, Jane Hamsher, Larisa Alexandrovna, Medea Benjamin, Ray McGovern, Sibel Edmonds and Ted Rall.

Although they claim to be pacifists, one does not have to search deep on their website to find calls for violent insurrection (http://october2011.org/node/467):
Austerity and Deficit Hawks Say, “Let Them Eat Cake,” The People Will Say, “Off With Their Heads”
Madame DeFarge would nod her head approvingly.

Of course, I don't expect them to do anything much more than give a bunch of speeches and shout slogans, but it should provide for some good comedy.

You think they're going to bring guillotines?

Or do you think this is just rhetoric and does nothing to show that they're not pacifists who intend nothing but peaceful demonstration?

Try reading all the way through what I wrote before interfacing with the keyboard; it may help prevent you from looking foolish.

You're just upset that they can indeed draw a crowd while the usual right wing protest in DC has to be filmed with a tight camera angle to keep from looking as meager as it is.

I don't know how big a crowd they will draw. The only one I've ever heard of is McKinney, and that's only because she was a congresswoman who punched a capital police officer and make a bunch of crazy CT claims about Katrina.

Those crazy kooks and their distaste for war and the desire to not see social services cut!

How do people come up with such wacky notions?

I need to find the old thread, but she's also the one who thinks Africa is a country.

If hope it is on TV. It might make for some interesting watching.

Maybe those teatards diddling with the debt cieling and the social safety net need to see some angry people swarming the streets of D.C. like they did in Madison.

It is easy to pretend that they are not getting letters telling them to wake up and grow up.

Don't pretend that the massive protests of the 1960s and 70s didn't make a difference.

I'm sure their vague demands will garner equally vague crowds that will produce equally vague results.

Let's go get that corporatism... It's right there!

To be honest, I kinda prefer the Socialist and Marxists leftists over these Progressives. They at least write books thinking and deconstructing and analytically materialising... These guys all seem to be catch phrases.

The fact that they have a "musicians" tab is just pathetic.

We are the folk song army
Every one of us cares
We hate poverty war and injustice

He pre-lampooned this lot, did he not?

Relax. I read your entire post and saw that you were speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

So it's OK for you to suggest that they're not really pacifists as long as you say you don't really mean it?

Or do you admit that they're not at all likely to do anything violent? If so, why bother saying what you said and posting this quote?

What exactly did you mean when you said "Although they claim to be pacifists" if you're not insinuating that they're threatening violence?

They're typically phony pacifists who fantasize about some revolution that eliminates all the nasty capitalist pigs, without actually having to load the tumbrils themselves. In short, they'd love for it to happen, but they don't want to dirty their own hands.

How else would you reconcile their claim of pacificism with this quote?

Austerity and Deficit Hawks Say, “Let Them Eat Cake,” The People Will Say, “Off With Their Heads”

Is it intended as humor? Is it "off with their heads" in some metaphorical sense?

C'mon, they are far left kooks (ie aging hippies). They are probably still living in 1967.

Is there a typo in this?

If the protests took place in October, 2001, then I would not worry about that since these protests occurred about 10 years ago.

But, if these protests are supposed to take place in October, 2011, then there may be something to worry about since that is just about two months away. However, I doubt that these protests will amount to very much, therefore one should not be too worried about them.

I take that as an answer to my questions. So you do believe they're threatening violence?

Yes. I do not believe any of them are threatening literal violence much less decapitation.

Do you? In the OP you spoke out of both sides of your mouth, but now you seem to believe that they really mean to threaten violence.

Brainster typoed. Following the first link it say October 2011, but it is the anniversary of invasion of Afghanistan. 10 year anniversary.

I wouldn't be one to call the "kooks". Their message is the right one.

I am starting a new thread on this topic because lacks any contribution to organization of the event and it's effectiveness.

Occurrences as such are seeds of the revolution. What kind of life are you planting, if your intentions are bloody. Our intention is to peacefully occupy our land; it is the people's.

I suppose a little overtime at the CTS (http://www.less-lethal.com/) plant can't be bad for the economy.

It is easy to fall into the rhetoric of war and violence. One of these days someone will declare a War on War.

We shouldn't be so quick to dismiss Cynthia McKinney as a "kook". Who else will save us from the George Soros/Alan Greenspan/Jew plot to take over the world on behalf of the Rothschilds? Link (http://blogs.jta.org/politics/article/2009/05/08/1005033/cynthia-mckinneys-conspiracy-theories-strike-again).

Maybe she and Ron Paul can join forces to create a league of dumbasses superheroes.
