I have heard this reported quite a few times over the last few days but cant seem to find any kind of a link- the basic point is that 50% of the 'New' Iraq police and Army have either abandoned their responsibilities or turned on their mentors. More worrying was a recent report that a battalion of newly trainied Iraqi army refused to fight their countrymen in Falluja!
So why cant we get news headlines about this? Surely its important enough? What does the US pan to do about this situation?

I was just listening to something about this on NPR. Apparently about half perform adequately, about 40% become demoralized and run away, and 10% never planned to do anything to begin with.
If I remember correctly, I was somewhat distracted while it was on.

I have read in places that the new Iraqi police are only new Iraqi police _before_ their first paycheck.

Maybe they don't like the cotton/polyester body armor uniforms that the Americans (product of Haliburton, no doubt) are providing.....
