SADDAM'S SOLDIERS SURRENDER

Mar 9 2003

Mike Hamilton reports from Camp Coyote in Kuwait

TERRIFIED Iraqi soldiers have crossed the Kuwait border and tried to surrender to British forces - because they thought the war had already started.

The motley band of a dozen troops waved the white flag as British paratroopers tested their weapons during a routine exercise.

The stunned Paras from 16 Air Assault Brigade were forced to tell the Iraqis they were not firing at them, and ordered them back to their home country telling them it was too early to surrender.

That's pretty cold sending them back to certain death as traitors.

What makes you think their superiors will discover that they crossed the border at all?

Oh, I don't know sometimes they know what their troops are doing. It could happen. But you certainly could be right.
(How's that for avoiding a senseless endless argument?;) )

They story just made me smile on a Sunday morning. Feel sorry for the poor Iraqi dogface, just waiting to bolt.

I have a feeling the iraqi army will surrender so fast that france will no longer be the icon of capitulation.

Certainly the vast majority.
Problem is the bad things a few can do with what they got.

If so, I salute them, and hope that those who choose not to die defending Saddam go on to serve honorably in the armed forces of a liberated Iraq.

An oppotunity missed there to get a bit of info on deployment.

Mind you they were prolly the 32nd Iraqi Imperial Guard Latrine Division.

I think the benefits of debriefing them are probably by far outweighed by the benefits of sending them back in goodwill.

No need to betray your country, gents. Prisoners will be well-treated by Allied forces, all we require is that you do not shoot at us. Enlisted men won't even be interrogated, as you don't know anything that our spy satellites, aerial, and ground recon haven't already told us. Spread the word.

See you next week. We'll have warm food waiting.

We are expected to believe they were sent back? I think we have ourselves a recruiting team that got sent back to inform everyone that if they have a white flag they will be fed and treated like prisoners of war.(with dignity)

I don't think Iraq will get a Black Eye for this one, just like they didn't get a bad rep for the last time. Mainly because they are being liberated not conquered. The French are just mad because they want to keep their title as world's fastest capitulaters. :)

I'll never forget that EBAY auction:
Authentic French Rifle, never fired, dropped once.
