Looks like one of "American's" heroes has shown his true nature.

Jay Severin speaks his mind. (http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/118/metro/Radio_host_says_remarks_misconstrued+.shtml)

He claims his statement was taken out of context.

Here's the context:

Severin's comment, "You think we should befriend them; I think we should kill them," came at the end of a conversation with a caller named Chris from Rhode Island who suggested that the United States befriend Muslims in this country "to help us root out their leaders who aren't really Muslims."

As part of his response, Severin said, "I believe that Muslims in this country are a fifth column. . . . The vast majority of Muslims in this country are very obviously loyal, not to the United States, but to their religion. And I'm worried that when the time comes for them to stand up and be counted, the reason they are here is to take over our culture and eventually take over our country."

He said: "My suspicion is that the majority of Muslims in the United States, who regard themselves as Muslims first and not as Americans really at all, see an American map one day where this is the United States of Islam, not the United States of America. I think it pays to harbor those suspicions."

Toward the end of the conversation, Severin asked, "Do you think we should befriend them?"

The caller said, "Well, I see Muslims in this country, they seem to like freedom."

"Would you answer my question?" Severin said. "Do you think we should befriend them?"

"I think we should . . ." the caller said before being interrupted.

"I'm going to try one more time," Severin said. "The host takes pains to phrase questions sometimes and in a fashion such, the appropriate reply is a yes or a no. This is a three-strike state; you're about to get your third strike. Do you believe we should befriend them?"

"Yes," the caller said.

"I've got good news for you: We have," Severin replied. "Thanks for the call and that's what I'm worried about."

Then, introducing another caller, Severin said: "I have an alternative viewpoint. It's slightly different than yours. You think we should befriend them; I think we should kill them."

Pretty stupid of him.

I really don't have a problem with it. But why stop at muslims? Let's root out ALL religious fanatics who seek to impose their will on the nation.

He didn't just say kill fanatical Muslims. He appeared to just say he wanted to kill Muslims in general. I don't like Christianity, either, but I don't think all Christians should be killed because of all of the fanatics.

I guess the irony was too subtle.

That guy said:

The vast majority of Muslims in this country are very obviously loyal, not to the United States, but to their religion.

Which I think is probably true for both christians and muslims. But it's funny he thinks christian's loyalty to their religion is better than muslim's loyalty to theirs. Surely if he thinks muslims should be killed for that, christians should too?

This guy hates america and the concept of individual freedom (a point of view they share with a lot of so-called “liberals”). His goal is to push his morality on everyone else. Of course I'm speculating, but if this guy is like other "conservative" talk hosts (Pat Grey and Glenn Beck, who are both openly religious, come to mind), I'm dead on.

From the few times I've listened to him, I have not found him to be religious. Mostly, he seems to be a shock-jock type, with an extreme right-wing bias. I think most of what he says is just trying to get a rise out of people. This time he just went too far.

My guess is that he'll get a suspension over this.

Tony. I hear what you are saying, and I am no friend to organized religion, but I do not think that rooting out segments of the population based on a factor like religion is right.

Just like I expect freedom -from- religion, America was founded on freedom -to practice- religion without gov interferance.

When people talk about seperation today, they seem to be coming at it from the other end (ie freedom -from- religion).

People have as much right to be muslim as I have to be atheist.

I say keep it in the home and church and out of schools and government, but not out of the conversation :)

Replace "muslim" with "jew" and this guy sounds like he's from 1930's Germany.

The really scary part is that this guy has developed a large audience that hang on his every word. His own "dittoheads".

Maybe. But if he said "you think that we should befriend them. I think we should feel their tits" he definitely would.

Then I stand corrected. I've never heard the guy myself.

Right wing polemicists may be a tad scarier sounding than leftist ones...but they are just as dangerous when push comes to shove. Righties don't have a lock on that market.

I agree. Maybe its just my perception, but these days it seems the Righties have a more vocal faithful following.

I think it's just you perception. If you go to rapture ready you will see that a lot of them think this country is ruled by extreme leftists who want to make everyone gay.
