The Ministry of Defence has launched an investigation into allegations that British soldiers have been pictured torturing an Iraqi prisoner.
The photographs, obtained by the Daily Mirror newspaper, show a suspected thief being beaten and urinated on.

I don't recall having seen a photograph of an American soldier urinating on Iraqi prisoner...But if that should happen then I suppose we'd be apeing you.

After being beaten and urinated on, he was driven away and dumped from the back of a moving vehicle, the soldiers claimed. .... and should be taken seriously, not being made into a pissing contest (intended, yes). :(

I deplore the abuse & I think it's inappropriate. It's the title of the thread "Uk apeing the US" that I object to.
Have you ever seen an interview or spoken with the mother of a criminal/juvenile delinquent??It's never their child's fault! They,"fell in with a bad crowd" or "so & so's a bad influence"..But their child's an angel!!
It's the same here. The thread title is a feeble attempt to blame the US for the action of UK soliders!it's the sort of thing you'd expect from the mother of juvenile deliquent.

OK - the UK soldiers are equally, disgustingly guilty as the US ones. No imitation was necessary. I have no reasons to belive they are not as stupid, cruel and without thoughts about the consequences.

Thank you.The misdeeds of American soliders are Americas fault & the Misdeeds of Uk soliders are the Uk's fault. That's my only point! The title of the thread was an attempt ,'To pass the buck of blame' on to US when it belongs with the UK.That's my only point.Again, this should not have happened & those responsible should be punished regardless or nationally.

Yes, myself, same as Geni will have seen a couple of days of commentators here self-righteously saying how it's a good job the British army all go on 'human rights conduct' seminars and are better disciplined than their US counterparts and wouldn't do that sort of thing and it isn't it a shame we get associated with this by, er, association.
Seems very quickly they've managed to prove our lot aren't any better.
Obviously years of denial about what was happening at Deepcut is about to come home to roost.

The UK is not apeing the US. The US is not apeing Saddam. It is a logical consequence of violence.
If you are attacking an enemy, most people don't like the act of harming another human being. They need to dehumanise them, in their minds. Then it is ok to kill them, or torture them, or invade them. They aren't human beings.
Of course, there are the psychopaths around who revel in such situations. They can get away with just about anything, and enjoy every minute of it. Normally, they have to control themselves, or it's a quick trip to the prison.
