This is the kind of story that we saw at the start of the War on Iraq propaganda effort:

Well, we do have the necessary assets already in theatre...

Yeah, I saw that, too, and that's what I thought, too. "Oh baby, they're not even done with Iraq and they're starting on Iran?"Iran, together with Iraq and North Korea, was among the nations President Bush labelled the "axis of evil" in his State of the Union address in January 2002. Gotta give them credit for staying on task, I suppose. I visualize a sort of Martha Stewart "Let's Get Organized!" checklist...

My suspicion has always been that a short and decisive campaign in Iraq will negate the need for such a campaign in Iran. Simply put, if we lay the smack down on Iraq then Iran will be ready to negotiate.

Let's remember, Iran was who tried to smuggle a ship full of bombs and ak47s to palestinian terrorists a short while back. Once Iran and Iraq stop sponsoring terrorism, we will have a much less volatile middle east.

I don't see that this report signals an intent for us to go after Iran. Even with the forces we have in place, the simple numbers indicate that the campaign would be considerably harder than the one antipated with Iraq. Add to that increasing resistance(since a second invasion would alienate even those who publically or silently support us), and it's not practical.

Much more likely I think would be another Israeli strike on the questionable sites. There are also diplomatic options unvailable with Iraq. Iran's internal political situation is more complex than Iraq', and there might be ways to influence factions willing to cooperate with the West in settling any issues without force.

Though we do have all of these wonderful toys, and a whole lot of old bombs coming up on the expiration dates. Be a shame to waste 'em.
