View Full Version : Three for three?

For all the grief people have been giving GWB, no one seems to have mentioned the possibility that his infamous "Axis of Evil"™ remark was right on the money, and 18 months later we see evidence that all three of these nations have more or less justified their status as potential threats?
Iraq: four sets of undeclared banned weapons found so far and questionable cooperation with inspections. Evidence of falsified and destroyed records. Known to support Palestinian terrorism.
N. Korea: Turning up the heat one outrage at a time, desperately seeking international attention and aid through the use of nuclear blackmail (the Onion article may be the most honest reporting of their attitude thus far!)
Iran: Longtime haven for muslim extremist groups and multiple terrorist organizations, Iran's nuclear program is found to be years ahead of where we thought it was, with a disingenuous assertion that it's for "energy."
18 months, 3 for 3. I want to take GWB with me next time I'm at the horse track. The only miss I've seen is that he didn't include France's international extortion campaign as a fourth member. I mean, honestly! No new resolution "no matter what," for instance. If we got polaroids of Hussein waxing the camel while sitting on a nuke, they'd still oppose action.
Thoughts?

Maybe Nth Korea jumped into the role after being cast by GW Bush.

"Waxing" is slang for having sex. Kinda like how you guys say "shag". :)

Someday I'll open a reply to you with something other than "Timmy, you ignorant slut." But today isn't that day.
Timmy, you ignorant slut.
Do you really think that a government is going to ramp up nuke production just because another government called it a name? Someday you'll have to look into Kruschev's shoe-pounding tirade and threats that he would bury us all... and try to understand why it didn't spark WWIII.
Talk is cheap.

Actually, I meant it in the masturbatory sense. You know, waxing the carrot, waxing the dolphin, etc. I thought a little local flavor would help to enhance the admittedly disturbing image.
Of course, I realize that just by posting this that I've probably managed to completely hijack my own thread.
Oh, well.

Do you really think that we should think GWB is some sort of Nostradamus for pointing out that Iraq (who fought the US in a war), Iran (who kidnapped american soldiers) and North Korea (led by communist dictator and also, the korean war) would be against american interests?
If you see all three as "potential threats", why all the focus on Iraq? As the one with no nukes (or furthest away from nukes) aren't they the least threatening of the three?

I said nothing of the sort. I am merely suggesting that the copious criticism GWB received for identifying three significant threats was perhaps premature. Don't tell me you don't remember the hue and cry about "how dare he" etc. etc. If I was GWB, I would demand an apology. Thankfully he seems to be a bigger person than that.
Please note he did not include Libya (former terrorist threat) or any of a score of other "old enemies." That's why this thread is called Three for Three, and not Three out of Seven.

I can only offer conjecture. It occurs to me that of the three, only Iraq is under UN orders to disarm and play nice (even though the UN is jumping through hoops to avoid backing up their tough talk). It strikes me as the most legally defensible target.
Plus, I think we can all count on China to eventually bitch-slap their red-communist lovechild to the south sooner or later. Not responding to their attempts at blackmail seems like the most prudent course- you don't appease a spoiled child with attention, do you?
As far as Iran goes... your guess is as good as mine. With a weakened postwar Iraq on its borders, I think we can expect some kind of action there next.
Just guesses. But I don't expect to get three out of three, either.
That's why I'm not the president.
