Ive heard lots of stories on the #'s killed by his regime. But the range is fairly wide. THeres the thousands that were tourtured and killed (typical dictator behavior), then theres the uber-dictator claims of 100,000's, maybe millions, mass graves etc..

Where do people get these stats from? Is Saddam a Stalin-class dictator? Or is he more Noreaga.

The numbers get sort of confused once people get into squabbles over whether or not certain events were civil war or genocide.

I heard of mass graves. But didnt they turn out to be the dead from teh Iran/Iraq war? Can you count war casualties as murder victims?

Some were certainly from the Iran/Iraq war. But, they have uncovered graves with women and children burried in them.

Another problem with trying to count Saddam's death... many people may have died from starvation or lack of medicine due to sanctions against Iraq. In those cases, do you blame the U.S./U.K. and other countries who supported the sanctions? (Saddam was doing that, but he was greatly inflating the number of deaths.) Or do you blame Saddam, who diverted money from the oil-for-food program for his own uses?
