In a landmark judgement, a full bench comprising Justice S. Rajendra Babu and Justice G.P.Mathur dismissed a petition filed by scientists in the matter of P.M. Bhargava and others challenging an Andhra Pradesh High Court Order that Astrology is not science and should not be taught in the universities.

Sigh. Read the end of the article, where it lists the many accomplishments of Dr. Raj Baldev. So funny, yet so sad.

Along with his intervention, Dr. Raj Baldev had also filed the press clippings wherein he had predicted the fall and rise of three governments with exact time and date well in advance before their occurrences...

..And then we get:

Dr. Raj Baldev was also consulted regularly by the close deputies of Saddam Hussein privately for their President and Saddam Hussein granted the special privilege to Dr. Raj Baldev for addressing Iraqi Parliament as the highest honor on behalf of his country...

I guess Saddam forgot to ask him about the future of his own regime :)

If you ever meet an astrologer, who wants to boost his claims by pointing to this, ask him - since he accepts that a court of law can determine what science is - if he also accepts the court decisions by some American courts that creationism should be taught instead of evolution.

I don't think the true astrology beliver would be able to spot the relationship, but then again; you'll never know untill the day you try.

Then you explain it to him.

As a skeptic I belive you know what the odds is for getting reason into the mind of a true beliver. But of course, one can always try with polite suggestions and hints, atleast that's my usual approach.

The best thing is to have an audience, when the tough questions are popped. Watching the astrologers squirm will most likely drive the point home much more than the argument itself.

The people in the audience will - hopefully - look at the astrologer and ask themselves "What the heck...even I could see the reason in that argument...why is he squirming??"

I agree that the chance of getting an astrologer to admit he was wrong is not big. But then, we don't argue to convert the deluded/crooks, we argue to have people question their astrologers, dowsers, homeopaths, etc.

And the more people we have questioning astrologers et al, the more we'll have governments doing the same on a regualar basis around the world.
