I think that Rumsfeld and Gen.Myers visit to Iraq was a good thing for the troops. The sentiments I get from those unfortunate folks in the field is they feel like they were Shang Hi'ed and don't see ( much like Nam ) any appreciation from the people at home for their efforts. Regardless of your feelings on the war , America has asked these extraordinary men and women to accomplish a rather slippery goal. I think we should support them and altho the Sec. of Defense's visit may smell like an effort to assuage any guilt in other areas of his ( and the administration) responsibility for mismanagement , I believe it was over due and productive.
Thoughts?

Honestly, I have to say I don't trust this for a second. It may be good for the troops, but I get the impression the troops are pissed off that the date promised for them to return home keeps getting moved back further and further. I also find it highly convienient that Rummy should visit Iraq now, at a time when he's under pressure to explain how as Secretary of Defense he was "unaware" of the abuse of prisoners. He's also under pressure to release the other photos/video. I know he says he genuinely wants to, it's just those cursed lawyers. Once again, I don't buy this. What would really be good for the soldiers is for Bush & co. to show they actually have a concrete plan for getting them out of there. Right now, it just seems to me Rummy is manipulating the troops merely to get himself out of the fire a little bit.
That's just my opinion however.

I listened some this morning. While the overall mood was that of a high school pep rally (which may in fact be sorely needed), there were some impressively tough questions from the troops.

I think he did a good job.
