NBC's morning show just did a segment on the restoration of Michaelangelo's David, after much controversy.

Nice bit, but they managed to shoot what may be the world's most famous piece of sculpture from every concievable angle exept one that would show the little marble pee-pee.

The reporter stood resolutely in front of the sculpture, not moving an inch....And said she had specific instructions while Katy and the crew chuckled.

Here is an artwork that is annualy visited by millions of tourists, and we can't see the whole thing on TV?

wow! How very sad. When I visited the Victoria and Albert museum I saw their "DAvid" life sized plaster copy. The V&A has a great collection of plaster copies of great works of art. Very fragile now, but a great way to share some of the worlds great art works.

Anyway, hanging behind it was the little leaf that was placed on David's Mr.Happy when ever female ROYALTY came to visit the museum! For goodness sake, what's wrong with the female royals? Queen Victoria had enough kids she must have had some clue that David had a winky!!!

Actually the statues (one female and one male) are not themselves draped. What happened was that a solid blue curtain was temporarily put up to provide a non-distracting background for press conferences. It's used at other sites as well.

The decision to use the curtain was recommended by Ashcroft's advance person, and it appears to have had more to do with common sense than with prudery. I like art as well as women's breasts, but I certainly wouldn't want to give a press conference -- especially one covered by TV and photographers -- with a breast above my head.

As was amply demonstrated on a Jerry Seinfeld show, one of the laws of nature is that where there's cleavage men will look. (And here the cleavage extends all the way from the left shoulder to the waist and around to the back.) With the statue in the background most men would probably first look at the statue rather than the speaker, ("Hey, there's a breast behind that guy's head!" :-). Whatever was being said during that time would probably be ignored. That might well be the whole message when the video (usually just a few seconds) is for a TV news show.
