Freddie Young of Detroit has just been found guilty of second degree murder. This piece of ****, who recently won $1.5 million in a Mega Million lottery, had a daughter who was behind in her rent. Instead of giving her some cash, or even paying her arrears, he killed her landlord, Greg McNichol (an Australian, which is why it is news here), who was about to evict her:
http://www.news.com.au/top-stories/aussie-murder-trial-begins-in-detroit/story-e6frfkp9-1226241607354
Mr McNicol's property manager, Karen James, said Ayana had some "domestic issues", was behind on her rent and had been given a 30 day eviction notice.
Ms James said about two weeks before Young allegedly shot Mr McNicol on May 7 she spoke to Young on the phone.
"He said he did not want his daughter disrespected," Ms James told the court.
Really, this guy had fate smile on him, and must have thought he was now invincible, I don't know. But good riddence for at least the next 13 years.

First of all, the phrase is "just deserts," with only one S. The word "deserts," meaning what is deserved, is pronounced just like "desserts" but is spelled differently because the root word is "deserve."
Second, I'm a little cheesed off they couldn't get the guy for first degree. But anyway, they should at least be able to sue him for his $1.5 million.

Jeez, I always thought it was "just desserts", and so do a lot of others it seems. Learn something new every day.
I heard the wife on radio say that the prosecution never thought they would get a first degree verdict, and she was happy with the result, only hoping that the judge hands out more than the minimum.
And, yes, he can kiss the $1.5 million goodbye.

I'd be surprised if he has any of it left. Somehow he doesn't seem like the responsible type.

That would be like if they gave him some apple pie and ice cream instead of a prison sentence.

His assets were frozen when he was arrested, otherwise the cash would be long gone.

The murderer will no doubt find someone to blame other than himself.
I hope the victim's family files a wrongful death suit asap.

As in "Sarlaccs (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Sarlacc) live in deserts"? :p

From another article (http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20120717/METRO01/207170355/1409/metro/Detroit-lottery-winner-convicted-murdering-daughter-s-ex-landlord):
Prosecutors say Young became involved in the ongoing dispute with the tenant after the woman's relative called him to complain that McNicol was disrespectful by asking the tenant to be civil around the families attending the barbecue.
This is kind of thing I just do not understand. Asking someone to be civil around other people is disrespectful? What the hell.
Also in the article:
Young had $150,000 in cash and $500,000 in money orders WITH him. His daughter's rent was only behind by $1000.
OP is right....this guy is a complete moron.
I am sure the money is gone now seeing he had three of the cities top lawyers help him on the first trial that ended in a mistrial. Don't know if they helped on the second trial, but it took the jury 30 minutes to convicte his dumb ass.
Surprised there has not been any "going postal" jokes yet.

You know, normally I'm against calling any human being a "piece of :rule10" no matter what he's done.
But this time I think I'll make an exception.

A clear cut case for the death penalty if there ever was one.

I feel sorry for his daughter.
She is being evicted, money she probably counted on at least some of, is now out of her reach, and landlord's family will hate her forever.
I am not including "and her father is in jail" to the list, because it is probably a good thing for her.

I think one was implied:

Legal fees have likely eaten up a big chunk of it, if nothing else.

What a degenerate.
I don't think he was ruined by the lottery. I think he would have been a SOB either way.

I don't. Rather than leaving her unit, she complained to her deadbeat dad which started this chain of events. She could have had money long before if her idiot father was inclined to do so. She was "disrespected". What crap,

His assets are frozen and he's on ice. Get it? Desserts, frozen, ice? It's a joke, son, get it? Har har!

I'd say this guy would lose moron-of-the-year to the retard who let his 3-year old shoot him
