With Iraq saying (from time to time), "we're going to produce a new report on that issue", why don't the UN inspectors say, "okay, let us watch over your shoulder while the report is produced"?

Well, the last report was, what, 10,000 pages? Would you want to sit there looking over a bunch of Iraqi shoulders while they compiled another one? :D

The reason would be to get to the source of the information. They could find out who really knows about the information they plan to put in the report and assess if it would be credible even before the report is finished.
