I wouldn't suspect for a moment that any of our members couldn't correctly answer this question.. But .......
According to a Gallup Poll
Almost All Americans Consider World War II a “Just” War (http://www.gallup.com/content/?ci=11881)
53% Of Americans age 18 - 29 Do not know that Germany was the enemy..
Not necessarily the point of the poll, but another indication that Government Schools are turning loose a bunch of idiots...

Granted, public schools are a disaster but I have a very hard time believing a plurality of Americans don't know that. If not in the schools, they should have known it from popular entertainment.
Raiders of the Lost Ark must've been seen by more than 53% of Americans in that age range, and I don't see how you could mistake the bad guys for Belgians.
I'm going to take a closer look at the methodology behind this one.
Edited to add: It doesn't say anything about the background/location of the sampling, but I did find one silver lining: Although only 63% (across all age ranges) knew the right answer, there were very few WRONG answers and most of the difference was "no opinion." At least the morons are learning to keep their traps shut.

I think that most people in this poll might have associated the bad guys as the "Nazis" and may not associate the Nazis and Hitler with Germany. (which is still dumb...but 1 point for trying)

There was a similar poll done in England and the results were about the same. And England was physically attacked by Germany!!
Does the poll say anything about what schools the pollsters went too?? No?? Why are you blaming public schools. thats rather ignorant on your part.
As for idiots. Im sure that group can program a VCR vs a far fewer % of 40-60 year olds who can do that. Are they idiots???
By the by, I recall my history education (public+ private schools) rarely touched on WW2.
Plus that age gropup is far more likey to f*ck woth pollsters calling their house.

I had just about enough of this public school bashing!! Does everyone wear rose colored glasses when they think of schooling in the past??? The implication is that the generations are getting dummer and schools are getting worse. That doesnt make sense since grad rates, and college education rates have been rising. Illiteracy has also been dropping in that time.
Still people bash at the schools. What proof is there that they are doing a worse job now??
Look at the same gallup poll. 30% of 65+ older people didnt get the right answer. THey were alive and/or in WW2!!! And 30% didnt know it was the Germans!

Even if they did link "Nazis" and "Germany", they´d have to link both with WW2.

See, it just proves that public schools are getting worse, increasing from 30 to 53%.

Considering that most high school students can not correctly place France on the European continent I am not sure they would know anything about WWII.
The US's greatest enemy was totalitarianism as manifested by the facists and Stalin.
