Where is the best place to stay up to date on the latest scientific discovers and news for free. I know about sciencedirect.com but they are extremelly expensive $30 for a single journal.

All help is appreciated.

Pubmed (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed)

This service is payed by the US gov. All new medical papers are listed here but only the abstracts are free. To get the full papers you will have to order them at your own expense or go to a university library and copy the articles yourself.

Your local library.

With my library card number as a user account I can access several publications from my home computer. I even have more access if I log on from a terminal located inside the library building because the library subscribes to databases that are limited to their servers.

Also, many times they will have the paper journals available in their reference section.

Also... there are a few places that let you register for free. One particular medical news organization is http://www.medscape.com/medscapetodayhome .

SciCentral (http://www.scicentral.com/) is a good central hub.
