6:00 pm tonight Governor Rowland of CT announces his resignation.
Ya know, I had this nice long post talking about some of the good things the guy has done (as well as the bad) but one accidental press of the escape key and POOF! It's all gone. Oh well, you'll just have to survive another day without my witty, insightful commentary.

I hope he pulls a Dwyer at that press conference.
Oh, and he's a Republican (surprise!), following in the grand tradition of subhuman Waterbury politicians like Giordano. (http://www.rep-am.com/Giordano/new/index.html)

Ah, here's the story. (http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/06/21/connecticut.governor/index.html)
At the beginning of the year, the three-term Republican governor admitted in a televised address that he lied about who paid for renovations to his summer home.
After originally claiming he paid for the construction himself, Rowland confessed that state employees and people wanting to do business with the state paid for the installation of a hot tub, a heating system and cathedral ceilings.
But Rowland has denied that the people who performed the work won anything from the state in return for their services.
Rowland has been fined for accepting a set of free concert tickets and a below-rate hotel room.
Last year, one of his top aides pleaded guilty to taking gold and cash from companies in exchange for steering state contracts their way.
No governor in the history in the state of Connecticut had ever been fined for ethical violations. Rowland has been fined three times by the ethics committee.

That's what started it but the reason he resigned is that the state supreme court just smacked him down and said he must testify before his impeachment hearing.
