Char Margolis for the hour
Psychic Char Margolis says she can contact the dead. Is there a loved one you would like to reach? She joins Larry for the hour and takes your calls. Expect some tough questioning from King.

I predict a lot of letter, gender, and name guessing.
I'll say, on average, 4.5 guesses per call-in reading.

In fact, I predict the first "letter guess" will be an "M" or "M-A" connection.

Did she get canned since Marlon Brando died? Or maybe she's going to try to talk to Mr. Brando? =O

I saw Char Margolis on Canadian TV, I posted that in another thread. I just hope some moron TV programmer isn't gearing up to give her, her own show.

That is a strawman on your part if she never claimed to be able to predict such things... right?

Not really. Can she predict the future or not?

I don't know, and I don't speculate. We'd have to do some scientific tests in a controlled lab setting to evaluate that.
But feel free to show me her exact claim if she claimed she could.
If she did claim that, do we know what she claims she can predict abou the future? People doing stuff? Non-people events? What?

As a child I was able to see spirits, read thoughts, and foresee events. At first my abilities frightened me because I did not understand them, but eventually I came to accept them as a gift from the universe. I learned (and continue to learn) from others, as well as through my own efforts, how to develop my intuition to its fullest extent. And ultimately, I learned how to teach others to develop their own intuition as well.

From Char (http://www.char.net/Pages/MyMission.html)My Personal Mission
Now, more than ever, it is important for all of us to listen to our intuition so we can attain our goals in our lives and stay out of harms way.
My purpose for being on this earth is to help others recognize, develop, and use their God-given intuitive abilities to ease suffering and grow in goodness, love, compassion, and wisdom. My mission is to help take away fear-the fear of death, by proving that we don't die and will see our loved ones again, and the fear of living, by showing how we can tap in to our wisest selves and make our lives much happier and easier. My desire is to help each of us connect to the love that is eternal, that is the reason for our existence. My translation:
"I am special. I am very, very special. No really, I'm extremely important and good for this earth. You are not. You are weak and idiotic, but with my help perhaps you will one day understand my utter specialness.
I can show you ways of approaching specialness, but it will cost a lot of money and a lot of time but mostly a lot of money, and you still will never reach the ultimate specialness that is me. But thank you for trying.
I bless you all."

So.. where does this say anything specifically about predicting a death? She'd need to define specifically what she means by "events".

Stop trying to redefine words. She can predict future events, so why not the death of Brando?

Claus, I don't want to strawman her. To know what events she can predict or whatever, she'd have to define what she means by events. People? Buildings coming down? Everything? What?

HAH! How about that! I predicted an M-A connection and who does the show end up being about but MArlon Brando!! I swear I didn't have any info that the show would feature him tonight instead. I have incredible psychic powers!!!
Oh, wait. I channeled Lucianarchy for a minute there. Never mind that the psychic's name was MArgolis, which I really didn't pay attention to. I may have even heard Brando died by the time I posted the original, and made some weird connection with Larry King (as Brando did once by kissing him). I've made "predictions" here before which have amounted to nothing.
(channeling again)
But this time I really did it! And you can't deny that there's at least the possibility!!
(\channeling)
Nah, coincidence. Cool, but coincidence.

Events is a vague word. To test her claim we'd have to ask for specifically the type of events she claims she can predict.

(Still reading it, but here is a bit of her talk with the second caller)
MARGOLIS: Okay, who is that that's right a M.A. Like a Margaret or Mary or Ann?
CALLER: No.
MARGOLIS: OK. It's a common name or a middle name like this?
CALLER: No.
MARGOLIS: OK. You know what? I'm sorry I'm not picking up on you.
CALLER: OK.
MARGOLIS: I'm not picking up on you, I'm really sorry.
M-A! Am I good or what?? :D
OMG, I just skimmed the rest of it -- unbelievable!! This is priceless.

You will not get a coherent answer to that. It simply doesn't "work" that way. And no, you will not get a coherent explanation to that, either.
Don't ask for a miracle.

I saw her for the first time on Larry King and I thought it was very boring to listen to. All I heard were things like, "Is there an M or an N" and things like that. She doesn't sound very credible and I got bored after the first five minutes

Even after all this time, I would still like to know the difference between this psychic and psychics like van Praagh, Browne, and Edward...
I guess the silence is not only telling, it is devastating....
Shame on you. You know who you are.
You have every opportunity to defend the claims of these psychics. But you choose to be silent.
Shame on you.

I'll take a stab at what she means by "event" but I may be wrong:
"Any event that emits sufficient energy for me to pick it up correctly. If I get it wrong then it obviously is not an event as the energy was not strong enough for me to get it correct" :D

As I have never seen her before the appearance on Larry King, I might have judged her prematurely but my first impression of her wasn't a good one. Alex Tanous was "hard to beat" but he has since passed on so I don't think he is discussed in this forum.

She has specified what kind of events she can predict by using the word "foresee". She can predict future events and she did right in my opinion because there is a good possibility for people to think that she can predict
this (http://h71033.www7.hp.com/nsswdocs/corba/corba2-3B11/common/glos_def.htm)
Event: The link between the behavior that a component wants to react to and the code that tells the application how to respond. Java differentiates between the source of an event (the provider) and the handler for an event (what to do).
In NonStop™ DOM and JORB, an asynchronous message sent by one object to another.
In Distributed System Management (DSM), an error or other occurrence of significance to the operator, described in a message from a software subsystem to the Event Management Service (EMS).
this (http://iishelp.web.cern.ch/IISHelp/iis/htm/core/iigloss.htm)
Event:Any action, often generated by a user or an ActiveX control, to which a program might respond. Typical events include pressing a keyboard key, choosing a button by using a mouse click, and other mouse actions. Programmers write code to respond to these actions.
or that (http://xmm.vilspa.esa.es/external/xmm_user_support/documentation/socdoc/socdoc/glossary.shtml)
Event
Generic term for a signal occurring in the detector. For the X-ray cameras, the deposition of an X-ray in the CCD produces signal charge, which is eventually registered when the matrix of pixel charges are read out to external electronics. Anything registered above the threshold level of these electronics might also be considered an event, for example the detection of a cosmic ray or proton, gamma ray, or other noise source. In the OM, the desirable signal event is of course the detection of an optical photon. In the science documents, event is used synonymously with "photon" and "count" kind of events...
