"It's fun to stay at the YMCA" (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040702/481/lon82507021756)

There are no words.

(Mel, if you've beaten me to this one too... *shakes fist*)

Then there was that other time when he did the rendition of "Out in the west texas town of el paso I fell in love with a mexican girl" whatever that song is called, except he change it to a Vietnamese girl and some Vietnamese town and sang during the visit to Vietnam. Bottom line is the dude likes to sing.

Anyone who likes to sing cannot be all bad.

And there's a couple of Marshall half-stacks in the background. Have some respect for quality audio equipment ;)

El Paso - Marty Robbins (uh... c. 1959? 1963?)

Somehow ,"Ling Nyugen from Quing Ngai" just doesn't have the same ring to it...

Out in the Vietnam town of Quing Ngai
I fell in love with a Laotian girl
Night time would find me in Losie's cantina (sorry bad joke here)
Music would play and Ling Nyugen would whirl

Black as the night were the eyes of Ling Nyugen
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love is strong for this Laotian maiden
I was in love, but in vain I could tell

One night a wild young chicken farmer came in
Wild as the South China typhoon
Dashing and daring, and drink he was sharing
Wicked Ling Nyugen the girl that I love

So in anger
I challenged his right for the love of this maiden
He dived with his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heartbeat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor

Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance, and that was to run

Out through the back door of Losie's I ran
Out where the horses were tied
I picked a good one, he looked like he could run
Jumped on his back and away I did ride
Just as fast as I could

From the Vietnam town of Quing Ngai
Up through the badlands of Buon Me Thuot

Back in Quing Ngai my life would be worthless
Everything's gone, in life nothing is left
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death

I saddled up and away I did go
Riding alone in the dark
Maybe tomorrow a bullet may find me
Tonight nothing's worse than this pain in my heart

And at last here I am on the hill overlooking Quing Ngai
I can see Losie's cantina below
My love is strong and it pushes me onwards
Down off the hill to Ling Nyugen I go

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys
Off to my left ride a dozen or more
Shoutin' and shootin', I can't let them catch me
I've got to make it to Losie's back door

Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side
It's getting harder to stay in the saddle
I'm getting weary, unable to ride

But my love for Ling Nyugen is strong and I rise where I've fallen
And though I am weary I can't stop to rest
I see the white puff of smoke from their rifles
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest

From out of nowhere, Ling Nyugen has found me
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side
Cradled by two lovin' arms that I'll die for
One little kiss and Ling Nyugen goodbye

I saw it on Craig Kilborn and it just didn't register. I didn't "get it", but it seems that it actuall was Colin Powell on stage, dressed up and everything.

I don't know. As far as "bad taste" goes this still isn't quite as bad as when Al Gore rammed his tongue down a surprised Tipper's throat live on national T.V. in an apparent attempt to prove his silly claim that the movie "Love Story" was based on his life.

(I'm still not completely convinced that wasn't the real reason he lost the 2000 election.)

Karaoke is big in Asia with political leaders. Any aspiring politician has to be able to warble a schmaltzy American pop tune if he wants to be elected.
