Muscleman, my friend, snap out of it!

What does proving it to you "online" have to do with anything?

WELL? CAN ANYONE PROVE TO ME YOU CAN DO IT ONLINE?150 pounds.

Three times.

Very well. I am open to this offer. Let's talk.

First off, this is what I will need from you:
1) Proof that you have a million dollars in a trust fund.
2) What you would consider acceptable online proof.

LOL, DOES IT SOUND RIDICULOUS? ME ASKING YOU TO PROVE IN A WAY IT CAN NEVER BE PROVEN?Only if you yourself started from the position where it can never be proven, in which case it's you that sounds ridiculous, not the offer.

It's pretty obvious that your agenda here is to show that this is somehow analogous to the JREF challenge. Please, feel free to cut to the chase.

Well, if we are going to play telephone, then I'll try my Yoda voice.

You wish to possibly online prove, eh? A Jedi seeks not publication - 3 or otherwise. The planet 150 ponds has, yes? For the canned food, what must given be? One million pelicans must given be. There is no possibly prove - there is possibly understand and possibly not understand. On the line stay you must. Leave the line and leave order. The proof in the force is. [wiggling of ears] The method in the force is also. Your ordinary polates handle you must. Your extra polates handle you must never. When one is not schooled in the force, the normal paranormal seems and the paranormal normal seems - be fooled not. The Emperor the state rules - l'etat, Emperor c'est. Many challenges face you will. Nonsense, also, face you will. Normal, normal, NORMAL! Wait. Where I was? This rock - it matter is. This desire - it silent should be. Paranormal, SHMARANORMAL. [stamping of staff]

First of all, quit the all caps crap. It does nothing to help your position.

Second of all, your challange is easy. A person could merely e-mail to you a video of themselves bench pressing 150 lbs three times. Not too difficult.

NOW HOW MANY TIMES CAN MUSCLEMAN BENCH PRESS 400 LBS?

HE CAN DO IT 15 TIMES, 10 SETS, IN UNDER 30 MINUTES...

400 LBS MULTIPLIED BY 15 IS EQUALS TO 6,000. 6,000 MULTIPLIED BY 10 IS EQUALS TO 60,000 LBS!!

SO MUSCLEMAN CAN BENCH PRESS 60,000 LBS IN UNDER 30 MINUTES!!!

Well, using muscleman's "60,000 LBS!!" calculations as a template, obviously I've lifted my own blankets (weighing about five pounds) off myself to get up in the morning approximately 13,150 times. That means I've lifted 150 LBS from a horizontal position 438 times. This more than qualifies by muscleman's own metrics.

Pay up.

PROMISING TO AWARD AN ACT WHICH NEVER EXIST!!!!! Muscle, you seem to have mixed things up here: The James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) has made the $1mill challenge, not the people posting here on this board. None of us have a million to spare. If you want to contend for the JREF challenge, you need to apply to JREF. No amount of posting here will make you eligible for the prize.

But I can tell you this: The point of the prize IS to prove that nothing supernatural exists. But since you cant prove a negative, the price is awarded to anybody who can prove that it DOES exist. So far it is still unclaimed.

Sure, I'll take up your challenge, if you have 1,000,000 bucks.

Tell me, would your standards of evidence admit as a serious possibility the notion that the moon landing was faked?

Would they admit of the Cartesian Demon? Because if the demon has slid between the retina and the world, he can slide between the retina and the optical nerve. Between the optical nerve and the occipital lobe. Within the occiptial lobe, conspiratorial neurons proliferate their improbable dance of deception.

At any rate, if a million dollars WAS at stake, I could invest substantial resources and make it virtually impossible for there to be any mistake as to whether or not I was capable of performing the physical task. Yes, I could prove it to any remotely reasonable standard of evidence.

The paranormal, on the other hand, has the disadvantage of really being largely about people's delusionary powers. For THAT reason and no other does there exist such a paucity of even vaguely plausible evidence for many claims of spooky and improbable things happening.

Well, nobody can prove that you DON'T have a million dollars. So the belief 'you have a million dollars' is just as likely as the belief 'you don't have a million dollars' - the amegadollarist needs to have just as much faith as the megadollarist. But of course the megadollarist has the solace in the hard times of life that he will in time be given his half share of those million dollars. What has amegadollarism ever offered the world to compare with that greatest of gifts? Nothing!

Your reasoning starts out with two erronious premises. First of all, we can determine to a very, VERY high degree of certainty that a given person does not have a million dollars. Investigating their past, their work history, who they have assocaited with are cumulatively highly reliable.

Secondly, you presuppose that the null hypothesis is that the median person is as likely to have a million dollars as not. This is preposterous, the average and median levels of wealth are far, far below a million or even fifty thousand dollars. It is a priori more probable that whatever wealth he does have is below that level.

According to Plato, Socrates said the gymnasion was an important part of true philosophy. The noble savage is strong, because man in his natural state can lift 150 pounds easily. Besides, how can you expect to be a Nietzian superman if you can't bench press 150 pounds at least three times?

Good luck with your boxing match, although I'm a little hard pressed to understand the meaning of your last comment.

As I suspected, you provide no explanation of your challenge or epistemological grounding. This leads me to suspect that you are not holding a reasonable standard of evidence and are simply enacting a simplistic parody.
