I read an essay at least 30 years ago, before they started coming to Earth in such appallingly large numbers (am I the only person who's never knowingly met one?), that proposed that when they do land here, we should consider the fact that when high tech meets low tech, low tech always loses, even when high tech arrives with the best of intentions.
The author commended the reader to the example of South America's Jivaro headhunters, who, on capturing their enemies, killed them, cooked them, and ate them, then shrunk their heads for good measure and carried them around with them as trophies. The Spanish conquistadores were so revolted by the spectacle that they left the Jivaros alone and moved on to less disgusting pickings, like the Aztecs and Incas.
I think there's an important lesson to be learned here.

Hey, if you were hotdog, would you eat yourself?
I would. With butter. I'd be delicious.

Actually, the real lesson is not to have any large quantities of gold and silver when the Conquistadors come calling!
I'm in trouble if the aliens come for dust bunnies. :D
