Kopp guilty of murder

James Kopp, the fanatic who shot and killed an abortion-providing doctor, has been found guilty of murder.

Kopp waived his right to a jury trial, so a single judge heard the case.

Kopp's defense tried to claim that he planned to wound the doctor but not kill him.

He seemed to be surprised that he would not be able to use his trial as a way to show the public what he thinks of abortion in general. Instead, he would have to focus on the actual shooting.

Well, imagine that! Someone at trial has to focus on what they are being accused of.

Ugh!

In any case, those jail house interviews he gave sure did not help his case either.

I hope he gets sent away for a very long time!

I haven't been following this case. Can anybody explain why it was a second degree murder case?

In general, proving that a person was a sniper lying in wait for a victim establishes a first degree murder case, showing both malice aforethought and premeditation.
