I don't intend this thread to be used for any sort of serious debate, but something happened last night on Fox News that I thought was pretty damn funny.

Bill O'Reilly was doing his show live, interviewing a guest(I forget who...I was pretty sick. Maybe a senator?) and something came up where O'Reilly mentioned that something had made headlines today. To prove it, he held up his computer printout of the news report that he was reading and was in his hand to the camera, for the interviewee to see(interview was done via satellite). The funny part? It was a printout of a CNN news story! Since it was live, FoxNews could do nothing about it. Quite funny and it brightened up my overwise crappy night a bit...:)

Perhaps he was looking for "fair and balanced news?"

BWA!HA!HA!HA!HA!

I am afraid I enjoy watching Fox for its "Weekly World News" aspect.

It's childishly easy to prove, at least, that their audience is monolithically conservative. Simply look at their polls every day for a week and notice that the most usual result is something like 92% on one side of an issue and 8% against.

Plus the way they word their questions is always funny:

Q. Do you think we should go to war with Iraq:
o Yes, I'm a loyal American.
o No, I'm an America-hating traitor.

Another one I just remembered as well...

Last night there was a reporter who was doing a live report from who knows where. He started to talk about the Al Qaeda/Iraqi link and said something that put some minor doubts on the connection between Saddam and bin Laden. He then put his finger to his earpiece, listened for a second, and then backpeddled about what he said for a good 30 seconds. I thought that one was pretty funny, too. Not nearly as funny as the Bill O'Reilly one, though.

My favorite was Monday Night Football......a few years ago during a game they panned the audience looking for the requisite babe to focus on for a segway.....they found her. A beautiful tall blonde with classic features and a very healthy rack.

As they focused in for a close up she suddenly plunged her finger into her nose past the first knuckle and commenced a mining operation! :D

The camera didn't cut away fast enough....and you hear Al Micheals say "Well, that was almost perfect." :D :D

Ahhh...live TV...don't ya love it!?

Sundog:

It seems that we are doom'd to have either conservative or liberal media organizations rather than a good moderate or honest organization. However, as ohters note, the primary purpose of the organization is to make money. Fox caters to a group that resents the other outlets.

It is a bit like Helen "She is Still Alive" Thomas asking why the Bush administration favored killing tens of thousands of Iraqi civilians.

Choose your poll. . . .

Should the US Intervene in Iraq:

O Yes, the lives of innocents do not matter compaired to oil.

O No, no blood for oil in my name.

O Yes, we must save the innocents from dictatorship.

O No, they are just a bunch of brown people.

Of course, as much of an airhead "Eddie" of "Fox Friends" is in the morning, I give her credit for suddenly asking, "Isn't Jessie Jackson just a complete ego maniac?!!"

I switch from CNN to FoxNews and back as my news channel of choice every month or two. I'll watch CNN for a month and eventually get sick of how slanted it is to the left. So I'll switch over to FoxNews and eventually get sick of how slanted it is to the right. It's an ongoing cycle. As far as E.D.(I think that's what it is) goes on Fox and Friends, my fscking god! I hate that woman with all of my heart! I have to say that she is honestly the stupidest and least informed news person I've ever seen in my short life. It makes me even sicker that she heads up the freaking show. Blech!

Thus spake a collegue in mock seriousness.

Here you are wrong. She sits in the middle with a short skirt. I mean, get your facts straight when you post!!

It is an important position! Whilst pregnant another "achorwoman reporter eyecandy" fullfilled this position--with a short leather mini--quite admirably.

I do not remember what she said, for some reason. . . .

I remember when that happened. The fill-in is the weekend F&F girl and actually much smarter and much better informed, IMO.

Also, Eddie/ED/whatever lady was co-host of Bill O's radio show when it started. I thought that was hilarious. More hilarious, though, is that even Bill O went off on her a few times for being stupid and "hurt her feelings." I had a great time listening to that. Not sure if she is on the radio show any more, though.

I think the thing that really sent me over the edge on this nitwit is when the pledge of alligence ruling was a big issue. She made herself sound like an absolute moron on this issue, as she was unrelentingly for overturning the ruling while never listening to the law on the matter. She is touchy-feely to the extreme, and thinks legal decisions need to be based on how it makes good Christians like her feel. It really made me want to puke, especially when she would try to debate people who would explain the issue to her, and make herself look even stupider.

I do not think so . . . the "producer" he refers to tends to be a bit liberal. Of course I could confirm or deny this if I bothered to check the information which is far too difficult for me. . . .

The current girl apparently tried to free a lobster in fresh water and has suffered teasing from Bill and Ted Nugent ever since.

Anyways, yes, "Eddy" has the typical reactionary response to non-conservative/Chrisitian opinions. Regarding the Pledge, she would believe the court decision banned the Pledge. As you know it did not, it just banned its current form.

Our local Fox news affiliate did a story a few days ago about a local guy making signs saying "End Terrorism: Bomb Saddam!". They talked about how many people were coming up to him and asking where they could get one, they gave his contact infromation at the end of the story.

Fox "News".

Has anyone seen the guy on MSNBC who seems to be a big O'Reilly knock-off? It's funny to watch, because it is such a blatant rip-off.

All of them are slanted one way or another to some extent - which way the slant goes is most often a function of the nature of the subject matter coupled w/ the specific medium - as I've stated in another thread.

So would you disagree that CNN tv is generally slanted to the left and FoxNews tv is generally slanted to the right? If not, lemme alone:P

Really, I do agree - and it is pretty much self evident.

What I fail to understand are others who post about a distinctly conservative slant or a distinctly liberal one - it depends on the outlet / story.

I seem to remember a little while ago, you were railing against the liberal media. Have you moderated your opinion a bit?

Then there was the time when Fox News anchor Sheppard Smith was doing a story on Jennifer Lopez and inadvertently said "blow job."

"The Onion" described Fox News Perfectly:

"Fox News--We have the courage to cover the stories other networks are too smart to cover".

By the way, anybody else read the recent MAD magazine satire of that pompous blowhard, Bill O'Reilly?

The only thing funnier than the O'Reilly parodies on SNL are the Chris Matthews ones.

Bill O'Reilly: And now for a look at our Viewer Mail, about a story on overcrowding in kindergarten classrooms.

Janet Miller of Park City, Utah writes: "Bill, normally I'm a fan of 'The Factor's' hard hitting style, but your interview with the five-year old girl about class size was a little too rough. Telling her she was 'out of her mind' was simply uncalled for."

Janet, here at The Factor, we pull no punches, When you come on the show, you gotta know that.

Ed Gekas, Emhurst, Illinois: "Bill, your tough, incisive questions had that five year old girl squirming. The bottom line is, you had the facts. She didn't."

And finally, Paul Jemino of Islip, New York writes: "Bill, even though the girl hurt her case by crying, she was right, and you were wrong. Albany, not New York City, is the capital of New York State."

Well, Paul, I thank you for watching. But I still say New York City is the state capital. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Yes I have - as I have come to conclusion that there is bias in BOTH directions.

Yet I remember that you seem only to notice/acknowledge the conservative slant.

My primary claim is a bias towards profit. In addition, my opinion is that the news, in general, is biased towards conservative viewpoints as a result of the bias towards profit.

That'll be a hard one to shake. :)

On the other hand, I'm willing to agree that there can be bias either way. "Media" is definitely not a monolith.

Not all issues reported in the media have any direct relation to profit. On most of these issues the media are generally biased toward liberal viewpoints because most journalists are liberal. There are always exceptions of course, but I agree with Barkhorn that there is bias both ways depending on the issue and the outlet.
