View Full Version : rituals (or Rituals)

Hi,

I was wondering what peoples' rituals (or Rituals) are.

I use Rituals to denote formal religious ones, and rituals to denote non-religious activities. -both are something which you do everyday, that you feel is more than just a habit or a chore, because it has more special meaning for you.

I practice a t'ai chi ch'uan form twice (or more) a day, and do a yoga exercise routine. I also walk to work everyday, even in the rain (those bright orange golf ponchos come in handy!).

In addition, I have several tall Guiness beers on Fridays with some pals.

I also have a 'words of wisdom' type of thing that starts up when my computer does. I usually 'reflect' on what it is saying for about a minute or so.

Every day is new. Every day is different. I don't have to do anything special to make it that way.

Hm... I'm pretty sure my faith has no rituals, but i'm not 100% sure about that... we might have something for marriages and funerals. We have ceremonies for those things, as much as any faith does, but I don't think we consider them rituals. I haven't had either yet, so it doesn't come up in my life much.

What defenition of Ritual do you mean? Would you include regular ceremonies? What about praying, or going to church and such? Our defenitions may differ here on what a ritual is...

EDIT: I just raelized we have a similar computer related ritual (small r), except my words of wisdome are administered immediately before my computer shuts down... "This computer has performed an illegal operation, and will now shut down." Quite a test of serenity and willpower, that... :D )

OTHER EDIT: Fixed for typos, except for "raelized " which i just find too hilarious to fix

I have a weekly routine I go through. I suppose that could be considered a ritual
