The Iraqi war has started (http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1084275,00.html).
There are also reports of heavy fighting between Iraqis and American and British troops in Basra. (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/til/jsp/modules/Article/print.jsp?itemId=3895393) About 50 US and British troops will take the whole city over lol.
Anyway, you aren't hearing about this in the leftist US media, so I thought I would link it.

Nor the rightist, patriachal conspiratorial media. ;) Fox has nothing about it either.
I smell a conspiracy. They are all in it TOGETHER to hide the beginning of the war from us.
I see it all now.

These are sad times. [edited to add: as are all times]
I hope it ends well.

They are probably waiting for the 8PM deadline to pass before they start reporting on the combat taking place right now.
But the killing has begun.

Lord, you're not very bright, are you? Do you think that every news service in the world prints simultaneously? You might want to increase your conspiracy threshold somewhere above negative infinity.

No, I would never claim to be a Jesus Christ, but genius is close enough.

I read that these bombings were in the no-fly zone. Is this true? In fact it says so in the article you linked as well. Or is this more than just "another no-fly zone bombing run"?
In any case, if the fighting hasn't started by now, I'm sure it will by the time I hit the "Submit Reply" button on this.
I hope they use John Madden to "telestrate" the action as he does during Monday Night Football. Some good ol' play-by-play would be nice from Al Michaels too. Instant replay...and that yellow line they superimpose on the field could be used to show the borders n stuff.
Okay enough sarcasm from me. I'll be rootin for the "home team".

Yep, according to the BBC, it was just another no-fly-zone bombing run. Does Jedi ever get anything right?

Is US and British troops on the ground putting bullets through the bodies of Iraqis part of the "No Fly Zone"?
Do tell.

As much as I hate to make my first post (ever! Yeah!) agreeing with Jedi Knight of all people...
Apparently there's fighting on the ground going on already, and Iraqi border guards are already surrendering.
Bush did say that the US might start doing things before 8 PM rolls around (two hours to go), so I'm not surprised.
...though I am disappointed. :(

I was just pointing out the "bombing" article, since in the past few months these runs have suddenly made headline news, even though they've been going on for years (as we all know I'm sure).
The second artice...yep, they're fighting. Just wanted to comment on the first one though. I did hear that some troops are giving up already too heh.

Well, I can sing. How about that?
John Jacob Jingleheimer Shmidt
His name is my name too!
Whenever we go out
The people always shout -
There goes
John Jacob Jingleheimer Shmidt!
HEIMER SHMIDT! Heimer shmidt! HEIMER SHMIDT! Heimer shmidt!
Now I'm going to stop hijacking this thread. Ahem:
I'm not sure how big a deal the surrenders are. I heard it was just border guards, which isn't exactly like the Elite Republican Guards are surrendering or anything.
I really wish I could find the article I got this stuff from now. Ergh. :(
(Consecutive posts using the :( face: 3.)
EDIT : Found the source.

Artsy....
Votive candles....connotation: peace/religion/love/kumbaya...etc
Stylistic spelling of USA....connotation: America...(duh) :D
Replacing S with swastika...connotation: NAZI!!!!
Put it all together...America has become a bunch of religious peaceloving and artistic Nazis!!
How perceptive! ;) We will sing kumbaya all the way to Baghdad! :D
So Geoff,...you said 9-11 was America's due for our damaging international policies for what? The last 50 years? Well, now we are officially in a conventional war as well as the WOT. Now if they strike our cities they will finally be a tad more justified. This is called meeting the threat head on. We tried to ignore the terrorists to death all during the Clinton admin....and for our appeasement we were rewarded with Kenya/Tanzania...USS Cole,...then 9-11. Now since we decided to start becoming the a-holes that you guys have always accused us of being we have been rewarded by...what??? Can you hear it??? The sound of one hand clapping my friend. Peace...and safety.
You can't argue with results Geoff. Disagree all you want, but facts are facts. Of course things may change....and if/when they do I'm sure you will remind me. But, so far....so good.

(BTW: I ought to get that book in the mail to you by this weekend. :) I look forward to discussing philosophy with you in the future....this politics/war stuff is starting to wear me down. Victory is a nice thing to contemplate....but death is just death... ugly, nasty stuff. I only hope that casualties can be kept to a minimum on all sides.)
