If you go to the linked article, they have a link to the Microsoft security web site, that has an update.

See: http://www.microsoft.com/security/security_bulletins/ms03-008.asp

Ooops... you said "trustworthy", so I guess microsoft is out.

Thanks for the tip Sundog, I missed that one.

I won't comment on Microsoft...I don't have the energy ;-)

I will say to anyone who doesn't know...if you don't want to be affected by every computer virus in the world, do NOT use Outook or Outlook Express for your email. Many "viruses" are specifically designed to use Outlook, and can also send themselves to everyone in your address book. This doesn't happen nearly as frequently with other email proggys, like Eudora (http://www.qualcomm.com). It's what I use anyways.

Just an FYI for y'all.

Well, with Eudora, Mozilla Mail, and others, you can still potentially activate a virus (unless you're on Linux like me :p) by saving the attachment and double-clicking on it, but it would have to be a deliberate action. It can't "just happen" like it can in Outlook or Outlook Express.

This is true Shanek. But it won't usually spread itself to other people on your mailing list, as in Outlook. The fact that Outlook can automatically activate attachments is another biggie. If more people used other clients besides Outlook, they wouldn't spread as much in the first place. Of course then they'd just make viruses that target Eudora users...sigh.

The war is never over :(

Except that I don't think Eudora makes its address book available to scripts. I know Mozilla Mail doesn't. It was a stupid, stupid, stupid thing for Microsoft to do, and they still haven't wised up and removed that "feature."

There has been a little bubble popping up on my computer for the last several days notifying me of an Automatic Windows Update. I have been ignoring it.

Then I read this topic. I checked the Update and it is to fix this virus problem mentioned in this topic. So I have just run it.

The first week after I bought my 'puter I reinstalled windows nine times. Each time I would try a different set of drivers, viruskillers, and such, and after set up, I would download the latest update from the MS website. The 'puter would run for an hour or so and then die horribly and I would reinstall. Then I stopped updating. Two years (yes, years)later it still hasn't crashed.
