What a surprise. They predicted an earthquake would happen in Southern California. Any idiot can say, "There will be quakes in Cali within 5 months!" and be correct, right? It's like shooting fish in a barrel, right? Wrong. The secret of predicting an earthquake in California is:

1. Don't give a specific magnitude.
2. Don't give a timeframe.

Do that, and you'll be 100% accurate. :D

This story was all over the SoCal news several days ago. However, there don't appear to be any news stories now pointing out that the prediction didn't come true.

Well, there were 102 tiny quakes in SoCal in the last week according to the US Geological Survey, but no sign of a 5+.

What's more, there is a great deal of anti-BS on the site.

We drove through Ranier NP yesterday, curiously enough, and you know what? We saw Mt. Adams just fine from the south side of Ranier (40+ miles) but we only saw the top of Ranier once, and for a few seconds. :)

Such is life around here.

Can't see anyone claiming to have predicted the quakes today and Sunday off the coast of Japan, M6.9, M7.3 and M6.4. Luckily nothing other than a few broken bones reported, although things did get a bit scary and wobbly for a few tens of seconds each time...

I have heard this all over the news and I figured it was just crap reporting. But now I see it here and it really p!sses me off.

They did not "predicte(d) an earthquake would happen in Southern California" They, as good scientists would, said there was a 50% probability of such a quake. 50%!! Even odds.

That none happened is as consistent with their predictions as if one did happen.

OK, maybe the news meda don't get it because they are idiots and are on deadline and have to come up with catchy stories. But to see the same idiocy here is truely depressing.
