Here is something I didn't know yesterday.
Quite ironic really.
Dylan wanted to 'set fire' to hippies (http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,10892558%255E13780,00.html)
"I had very little in common with and knew even less about a generation that I was supposed to be the voice of."
He acknowledges that his lyrics "struck nerves that had never been struck before", but says he grated at the way his songs' "meanings (were) subverted into polemics".
Or the best quote:
I wanted to set fire to these people.

I don't know how else you can view such songs as "masters of war". Maybe when he wrote that he had recognised his market and was producing a product for it. The ability of the universities to generate meaning and depth where there is nothing doesn't stop amazing me.

Emperor Dylan, butt naked and overrated to a freakish extreme. He's sorta right -- he should have been a marginal entity at best.

Set fire to a hippy? You'll make the whole room high.
People of Earth... woah, that hippie's starting to kick in... we've all learned a valuable lesson today... dude, my hands are huge. They can touch anything but themselves...

I remember being deeply impressed by Dylan when I was 14 or so... I was also blown away by the special effects in Godzilla.
