Regardless of whether you are for or against the war with Iraq (and there have been enough threads about that), you have to admit it's pretty amazing that we watch the war live on TV.
This administration has brought unprecedented access to troops in the AO, allowing "war reporters" to tag along with many of the military units (sans the Spec Ops folks, for obvious reasons.)
You can browse the web, find dozens of news web sites that update by the minute on events in the middle east, complete with streaming media. Or, just turn on the television, it's all over the place. For every news reporting web site, there's 10 sites with forums to discuss the war as it unfolds.
With the barrage of media coverage, making this what I have dubbed "the ultimate reality show", does anyone else think the war seems, I don't know, less real? It's like we're watching a movie, it's hard to believe people are actually dying and property is actually being destroyed. I know we're at war, but I watch this coverage, and it all seems like an elaborate movie script being written as we go.
War is very real and very bad. War is hell. Even though I've gone on record on these forums as supporting the president, I can't help but step back periodically and think about how bad war is. Yet, with the Hollywood-like coverage live on CNN, I can't help but think it masks the true atrocities of war from us.
Anyone else feel this way, or is this just mindless drivel?
