View Full Version : WWPD if Jesus returned and he was deranged? (serious question)

I have been wondering about this. I once thought about writing a screenplay in which Jesus returns, but he's a deranged killer, kind of like a "Natural Born Killer." Would his followers still follow him? Or would they abandon him? Would they seek a new messiah? Would they turn to another religion? Would they turn to atheism?
I think most of them would deny he was the messiah, even if he provided undeniable proof. A small number would slavishly continue to follow him like a cult and would commit murders themselves. What are your thoughts?

Beats me but great idea, let me know when you make it; I'd pay to see that.
How would he prove beyond doubt that he is Jesus? Seems like many would simply not accept him, as the Jews didn't accept him as the Messiah.

I'd probably get the same reaction those guys who made a movie about Muhammed got: Muslims burned the theaters down and tried to kill them. The Fundies would go wild. My life wouldn't be worth two cents.
As for proof, I dunno, maybe he could show two forms of photo ID?

On the flip side of the coin, what if Jesus appeared and wasnt deranged? Would Athiests convert to christianity? Or would they say its bunk... After 1000 people have been healed?

He'd walk right into a Southern Baptist Convention meeting and ask them
"What the h--l have you people been doing for the past couple thousand years???"
He'd then proceed to start tossing the moneychangers out of religious TV stations everywhere. Following this, he'd get convicted as a terrorist and sentenced to the death penalty.
Again.

Personally, I'm an atheist who greatly admires Jesus of Nazareth. I don't believe he was a god or the son of a god, but nonetheless he was a most excellent person, easily a peer of Gandhi.
Christianity could do with Jesus coming back. St Paul did too much damage. If Jesus were to return, I probably wouldn't convert and worship - Daddy was just too enthusiastic with the genocide for me to do that - but I'd certainly be a fellow-traveller.

Or people just committed genocide then said, "God told me to." And wrote it down.

Admire Jesus? Have you ever read the fairy tales and examined his character?
He was constantly contradicting himself, he would tell people to be brave, and run from danger himself, he lied, he made false prophecies, he misquoted scripture, he blasphemed.
What's to admire? Or, do you admire the fakey Jesus that's advertised by the Xtian religions?
As for Gandhi, he had some odd ways of applying his non-violence stuff. Sure, he thought non-violence was OK for the poor masses of India, but if they had led an armed struggle, perhaps events like Chauri Chaura wouldn't have happened.
just mho.

If Jesus returned, my guess is Fox would book him to fight Benny Hinn on an episode of celebrity boxing. Hinn should watch out, Jesus probably had those strong carpenter hands.
