What is International Law?
I always thought that it delt with commerce on the sea. Is there some other set of International Laws I have to understand?
I ask this because I don't want to violate any International Law and end up in The Hague court and get fined or whatever.

Beginner's guide to international law (http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Nook/2990/cb_rules.htm)

That should help.

I listened to an interesting interview today with a military lawyer, or Judge Advocate (I think he was called) on CBC Radio.

The USAF lawyer (I wish I could remember his name) talked about how the strike planners always consult with a military lawyer on every target selection to see if any violation of the laws of conflict (Geneva Covention mostly) is being made in selection of the target, or the ordinace used on the target. Although the final decision is in the hands of the commander, the lawyer is always consulted. This is what is happening with Iraq right now.

Why do we do this?
We do it because we are Americans.

Maj. Gen. Thomas Fiskus, Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Air Force tells Michael Enright that lawyers help in choosing bomb targets to avoid violating the Geneva Conventions.
