View Full Version : Man could become God.. what would YOU do ?

I think one day man “may” achieve omnipotence.. ie God Like powers.

Even if not physically most certainly in a virtual sense.. ie having your brain (or the electric impulses that make up “you”) plugged into a machine that allows you to be “king of the universe”.

What would YOU personally do with such power ?

I cannot get past lining up (virtual) beautiful women and having my way with them.. but this would eventually become tiresome .. (I guess) ???

Following that would I create new universes, destroy universes, deliberately create sentient life, set up situations where sentient life could form and then “interfere/observe/play with” it ???

In short would I become the GOD many people actually think exists NOW.

It is reasonable to assume that if man CAN eventually become omnipotent that some creature already HAS become omnipotent….

Interesting thoughts for an atheist ???

HERESY!!! Hellfire (http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46400) for you, Oz!!
:j2: :( <--Aussie :j2:

Just kidding. ;) (God, I love this smiley::j2:)

As for your question, I'd probably deal with oppresive / tyranical state systems and egregious offenders of human rights first, then get around to playtime. I wouldn't be able to sin with a clear concience otherwise. :p

I would start over.

Take all that I find good (a lot of scientific knowledge), and burn the rest. Giving the religious people the apocalypse thay always wanted.

I'd make a few other gods, both good and evil, male and female, complete with their universes. Then we'd play a great multiplayer game, something like "The Dominant Universe".

After that, we'd have a good meal and a divine orgy.

I think, for starters, I'd set down any 'rules' I expected people to follow. They'd be written in the stars in a language I'd write directly into people's brains. All they'd have to do is look up at night, and see the rules. Then I'd create a deific suggestion box in every town, city, village, etc. It would give me the means to improve the world steadily according to the wishes of the people. The person with the best suggestion each month would get one wish granted - you know, like being able to fly or being given a sex-harem for a night.

Of course, considering how I tend to play Sims, I'd probably also occasionally torture people just for fun... :D

Roasted, stir fried or cooked in some other way?? Not sure that eating 2 chickens at the same time really requires super natural powers, but what the heck :D

Read the book "Nanotime" by Bart Kosko. Very interesting read. Set in 2030, the main charecter forcefully has his brain transferred chunk (of meat) by chunk, and replaced with electronic chips.

Offshoot of his new chiphead is that instead of the one or two mental 'focuses' normal people have (like being able to drive and talk at the same time), he has several hundred. Also he has the ability to go to 'nanotime' and operate his brain at chip speeds, thousands of times faster than normal.

One of the first thing he does is live out a fantasy scenario where he is simultaneously making love to hundreds of different types of women (redheads in that area, blondes go over there, etc...).

If this happened to me I don't think I would do anything to 'sim' people that I wouldn't do to regular people, like torture as you suggest. If the simulation was accurate enough, the people would be indistinguishable from living beings, and to my mind therefore worthy of the same amount of respect.

It is reasonable to assume that if man CAN eventually become omnipotent that some creature already HAS become omnipotent….
I don't think there is any logical reason (besides significant computational complexity, and information storage and processing limitations) that we could not create, in the far future, a sim-world of some kind. However belief that this world is a sim world is inadvisiable for two reasons:
1. It is unfalsifiable
2. Assuming you have a large number of 'real' universes, only some of these would go on to produce sentient beings which create 'sim' universes. Therefore the odds of being in a 'sim' are small.

Rebecca:
"I always wanted to do two chicks at the same time, and I think if I was God I would be able to hook that up, cause chicks dig powers"

"not all chicks"

"Kind that double up on a guy like me do"

"Good point"

Finally... my sig has become relevant.

I'd make a universe with intellligent life, have those intelligences be slightly inclined to invent deities and such, but also capable of observing the lack of evidence for such deities and the "rules of nature" that could be the base of everything without any such deities.

Then I'd brag about it on a skeptic board within said universe. :D

PS. I'm bored with the whole thing now. I'm turning it all off in a couple of days to use the equipment for erotic purposes.

You people are disgusting, using your powers for your own sexual gratification. That's the most selfish thing I've ever heard. Here you have this wonderful gift, and instead of using it to improve the world, you'd use it for your own gain. You people ought to be ashamed.

Unless...

Can I use my powers to get blonde triplets in an oiled-up game of Twister? 'Cause that'd be really hot.

You all are much too small minded. I'd become Lifegazer's god.
I'd shrink myself to 0 dimensions and start to dream about my self as billions of little minds floating around in my dimensionless singularity being and feed to them senses of a 3 dimentional pseudo-reality (for no apparent reason). All of them would be abosultely fooled by this illusion except for one little egomaniacal vulgarian with a poor understanding of logic and reason who would argue an insult the masses into realizing that they are all just me having a dream. Why I would want them to know that I was dreaming them up after going through all that trouble setting up the whole deal would be way beyond me.
But i'm just crazy that way.

I think I'd decouple the universe into two. One where logic and logical people, people who understand that logic leads to indeterminism, etc, live.

In the other, I'd give them what they want, an interactive, disputatious, hairy thunderer.

The only reward would come from rejecting the idea of a god altogether.

The sex stuff here is interesting.. I am especially interested in “Rebecca” who wants to be with 2 Chicks at the same time ??? That would be 3 girls together ???

It is interesting though that our FIRST call (especially for blokes) is for sexual gratification.. I worry a little where that might lead.. after you get sick of beautiful girls what is next.. but I digress..

AFTER physical desires are catered for what WOULD you eventually spend your time doing.

Philosophical Part

Did any of you skeptics also note this contains a good argument for the existence of a God.

1. Our existence shows that life is possible
2. Our existence shows intelligent life is possible
3. It is fair to extrapolate that the universe contains life that ranges in intelligence levels from our beginning (single cell creatures) to our ultimate “evolution”
4. Our ultimate evolution is likely to lead to us having “godlike” powers
5. Therefore creatures already exist with God like powers
6. They may have made us (or our Universe)

Normal odds would predict in an infinite universe (or constant round of reiterating universe) that “Gods” would form. These Gods could perpetuate their own Universe or create their own.

Hence is it fair to say that God probably exists ? Not the silly Christian etc made up God but a life form that achieved god like ability ?

Oh, I would also make a special hell for double posters.

And sex was only my THIRD call.

I'll assume that I'm not omnimax, since that seems paradoxical. Just LOTS of power and knowledge.

I think that after I played around a bit with hot women AND men, and infinite chocolate, I'd start working on justice.

There would be clear unequivocal rules and a clear proof of my existence. There would be an afterlife. There would be a hell and a heaven, and all sorts of other things. Reincarnation would be possible, and provable, and you would have some knowledge of it. Evil would indeed arise from letting people have free will, but it would really be compensated for in heaven.

Nice people get a lot of choice about where they go next. Tours of the universe. Rebirths on other planets, other types of enviroments. Be an energy being. Live in multiple dimensions. Be a pampered house cat. Make your own dream planet.

Bad people get perfect karma, and then sent back for another try. You ran a chemical plant that killed a hundred people because you were too cheap to put in the safeguards? You experience all those hundred deaths, and all the relatives' grief. Hitler could be a long time dying 6,000,000 times...

If I could become God I would endeavour to experience everything, not just physically but also watching every possible universal scenario unfold (from every perspective). Then, satisfied that I have nothing new to see or do, I would cease my own existence, leaving the universe to continue without me (or cease as well).

Thinking about it, I'd issue everyone with special wristwatches. If you are uncertain about whether something is (morally) right or wrong, just ask your watch. Such watches would also function as lie detectors.
