Chirac Vows to Say No to Everything, Forever
Just moments after U.S. Special Operations forces discovered what appeared to be a 100-acre chemical weapons plant south of Baghdad, French President Jacques Chirac appeared on national television to announce that France was vetoing the discovery.

"The United States may think they have found a chemical weapons plant, but I say, no, they haven't," Mr. Chirac said. "And they can't make me say they have."

Throughout his speech, an unyielding Chirac said that no matter what the U.S. finds in Iraq in the future, he would use his "super-veto powers" to nullify any discoveries they might make.

In just one example of his intentions, the French President said that even if the U.S. produced a videotape of Saddam Hussein launching a nuclear missile tipped with chemical and biological weapons, he would veto that tape "without batting an eye."

"Veto, c`est moi," Chirac added.

Turning his attention to the NCAA basketball tournament, the French President said he was "rejecting" the results of the weekend game between Maryland and Xavier, adding that Xavier, not Maryland should be on the road to the NCAA championship.

"Contrary to reports that Maryland defeated Xavier 77-64, I maintain that in fact Xavier triumphed over Maryland, 108-62," Chirac said.

In Washington, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer called Mr. Chirac "delusional," adding, "It's kind of sad."

But within minutes, President Chirac offered a spirited response, saying, "Who is this Ari Fleischer? I say he does not exist."

Richard,

Whatever the rights and wrongs, you need to get over this Chirac thing. Let it go. You know it makes sense.

I suspect you'll have as much luck with this as others have had trying to convince people to get over their 'Bush thing'

Nice attempt, though.

I suspect you'll have as much luck with this as others have had trying to convince people to get over their 'Bush thing'Big difference -- Bush is still running this country. The "getting over" will be in order once he is out of office, but asking us to "get over Bush thing" is like asking an ill patient to "get over" their pain. Chirac's Iraq veto days, on the other hand, are gone.

Oh ok, then. Never mind.

Keep at it, iain. There's a big difference between the two situations, so no doubt you'll bring Richard around in no time.

It's too stupid for me to find it funny. Our soldiers are dying for W's war of choice, and nothing about the situation is amusing.

My brother is on the frontline right now. If he were here, he would be the first one to cock-slap the French. He wouldn't be as PC or well mannered as I though.

He's not here, so I'm doing it for him.

It would be more impressive if the 'chemical weapons find' had, in fact, involved finding chemical weapons. Or, indeed, chemicals.

Er, actually I thought the OP was pretty funny. :D What else can we have him threaten to veto? How about Nicole Kidman's Oscar dress? Two words-- "Ug" and "Ly". The French are supposed to know all about fashion, n'est ce pas?

Really, that bit about Chirac was pretty amusing (agree with him or not, the piece was clever). The bit about vetoing NCAA tournament results was a nice touch. The only think that might have made it a bit better would have been if he had vetoed the Louisville loss instead (on the assumption that the word Louisville derives from French, maybe King Louis, which could be mistaken). Who wrote it? Did you get it from somewhere on the Net?

It will be interesting to see what they find or don't find there. Either they will find a lot or else the Bush administration is really dumb. In fact, while politicians can be inept and dishonest it would reach a new record if after all this they found nothing. My guess is that they know he has a lot of stuff but couldn't reveal it due to whatever circumstances. We'll see what happens.

Richard, maybe he would tell you to clean your room and go to bed earlier, that way I would not have to read the uninformed garbage and gun spam you pass off as posts. I'll give you a word of advice son, everything you hear about out of Iraq should be given 24 hours to age before you accept it as true. That way, you may come out of the occasional thread not looking like an Idiot....Hmmmm, maybe thats asking a bit much.

ok, you can go back to tough talk and spam now.....
